American version to be 17 minutes shorter... OUCH!

According to a Norwegian magazine http://www.dagbladet.no/2013/04/10/kultur/kon-tiki/thor_heyerdahl/film /usa/26600327/ (website is in norwegian, but you can google translate) Harvey Weinstein has cut the film as much as 17 minutes making the American version only 101 minutes long. The norwegian version is 118 minutes long. Ouch.... I'm not sure if people in America who are going to see the movie would care about this or not, but I clearly would. We are talking about 17 minutes of footage removed here!

Fear not the darkness, but welcome its embrace.

I just saw this movie, here in Mexico, where I live, and it was the Norwegian original version, but in English, as you may know, they did all the scenes thar required dialogs in two version Norwegian and English...and it was 114 minutes long...the speking Norwegian version is 4 minutes longer , but because of the language, same scenes nothing more, is the same...

I know that. But the production notes for the english version of the film claims it's only 101 minutes long. http://www.twcpublicity.com/downloads/production/kon_tiki_press_notes_ 4_3_13.pdf

interesting.

I just saw it in theaters here in New York, and the vast majority of dialogue was in English and it couldn't have been more than 95 min without credits (showing was for 7pm and my phone said 8:34 when credits were rolling). Not that I'm sure the edits hurt the film, I really enjoyed it and the pace moved well.

If they're smart they'll cut the awful CGI crab scenes.

To be honest, though, nothing can really save this turd. It's an average film, at best. It's a travesty that it was nominated in the same category as Amour. Embarrassing, really.

I knew it! Everything lists it as 118 minutes, even the theater I saw it at, but my showing started at 3:25 and, including ten minutes of previews, it was over by 5:05! I thought I was going crazy!

I'm glad to hear it, though, because the movie felt way too short. Hopefully they release the full version on Blu-ray in the US. Stupid Weinstein Company!

Sadly the only version avaialble in North America will be the short version. Supposedly North Americans have a shot attention span.

According to the official Kon-Tiki movie Facebook page, the american dvd will include both the shortened english version, and the uncut norwegian version.
