Made for TV feel

First, let me say that I enjoyed this movie...a lot. However, it had a Lifetime/Hallmark/made-for-TV movie feel. Anyone else agree?

It reminded me of "127 hours" and "Into the Wild".

In its weakest moments, absolutely. The stuff set in 1968 didn't have a fraction of the budget they needed to do proper art direction and costume design. There were a couple of scenes where the dialogue didn't rise above that TV level.

However, the stuff that worked was great. For instance, the whole sequence where Henry educates himself about 60's music in order to connect with Gabe was just about perfect.

Prepare your minds for a new scale of physical, scientific values, gentlemen.

It definitely had that feel, & yet it's one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I'm not sure why I got that made-for-TV feeling, but I know what you're talking about. I'm happy that they had the budget to use the original songs in this movie.
