Reenacting Pseudo-Real Life Dramatic Events?

Anyone else get that vibe? It's either that or Rappaport is a real documentarian genius. I mean, c'mon, the kidney thing? Jarobi falling to tears? Q-Tip being the most perfect man of all time. The redemption!?

Either way, it's *beep* awesome. Great, great film about one of my all-time favorite groups of any genre.

How could you think Jarobi getting emotional, discussing Phife's kidney problems, was him acting somehow?

These dudes have known each other since they were kids. They went to school together then they wound up working together. They watched each other grow to become men, husbands and fathers then to watch someone who is basically your brother slowly dying and there's not much you can do about it, can make you emotional even discussing it long after the fact.

I question it because I make documentary films myself, and know how hard it is to get those REAL human moments. And so many of them that fit together so perfectly. Either this film is a minor miracle or there is a little bit of reenacting going on. doesn't matter either way to me, cause the story is real and film is excellent.

Your inability to capture similar REAL human moments must be a sure indicator that Rapaport was coaching his actors. Because, if you're having such a hard time making a good documentary, when a seemingly good one comes along, it must be fake.

LOL that was just too funny!!!

I'm not suggesting that if i can't get that kind of emotion, no one can. I'm just saying that it's hard to be around enough to get ALL the crucial, emotional moments on camera. especially in NYC; it's impossible to be everywhere all the time, with your finger on the red button.

No I did not get that vibe. I thought Rappaport did a very good job on a topic that (it seems) he was very passionate about. I think he got 'lucky' in the fact that so many things were going on during the time of his documentary and he probably decided to wait on releasing it to include an event that almost killed Phife - which in my opinion took it from a good film to a great film.

I thought he did a great job interviewing lots of different people who were involved with the rise of a Tribe called Quest and who were influenced by them.

I thought the score was great and whoever edited the film did a superb job.

Your instincts aren't that off. You are on the right path. It is a pseudo documentary of the group and Hip-Hop. It crassly hypes the beef over the unity. There are a lot of details left unexplored, and it stereotypes music and Hip-Hop.

But, the dramatic events are real and are quite good.
