Bette Davis

Other than Heather Langenkamp (who is great in everything), this movie was a mess. Beside that fact, was anyone reminded of Bette Davis by the lead actress? Back in the day, Bette would have done just as well. They seemed like they could be sisters if the same age.

reply

No, not really. Barbara Steele is the name of the lead actress and has quite an interesting career of her own. She's been doing great films since the 1960s with Mario Bava's Black Sunday being the best. You should research some of her other movies and watch them if you have the time.

She was excellent in her smaller part in Pretty Baby. Beware, it's an alarming and gritty movie

Yes, "Bette Davis". That's also what struck me straightaway about "Ann" (played by Barbara steele). The resemblance is remarkable! I don't know what Electric Warlock meant by "No, not really."

Cult horror fans know who Barbara Steele is. He indicated that Barbara Steele has a pretty expansive career herself. So, to him, she isn't some Bette Davis knockoff but rather an actress in her own right. I agree with him.

This is an interesting psycho-biddy performance from Barbara Steele. She does come across as a very English version of a Bette Davis character. Using the same type of spite and menace and triangulation as BD in her 1960s 'Nanny' period.
