I disagree with the posted review

I totally disagree with the posted review and some of the negative comments posted on this message board. I love this series. Dr. Cox takes a different approach to his presentation than I have seen before and while some people find him annoying, I love the way he is so excited about what he does and that same excitement rubs off on me.

I also like the way he compares what goes on within the solar system to what takes place on Earth. He shows why things work the way they do and he shows why there is a plausible chance of life on other worlds.

I thought this was a fascinating series and I hope he is planning to do more of them.

i completely agree with everything you've said here!

I completely agree with you Santol. So what if he is nothing like Attenborough? This is a different subject. I was totally blown away by the facts in this series. it completely captured my imagination and i recommend it to anyone.

Totally agreed, terrific series.

Series was awesome bar Brian Cox. While I can understand someone getting excited about these topics and presenting it in an upbeat way, the way he talks is just soo annoying. Especially the fact he has to pause every 2 seconds and look down. One of the worst docu presenters I've seen.

Brian Cox is a very highly respected and award-winning astro-physicist, not just a presenter they got in. He talks with passion and genuine knowledge and makes the subject matter engaging and accessible. While he doesn't fit the bill for your classic TV science presenter this is the best new educational show the BBC has come up with in years and I think he does a very good job.

This is exactly what I love about it! I find it so inspiring when someone is genuinely interested in a subject but also when that person wants everyone else to be just as interested. I think it would be hard to watch something like this with a monotonous boring professor type presenter.

Exists within a conspiracy of cartographers, apparently.

I also found the presenter off-putting.

Totally agree with your post. At first I was somewhat pushed by his approach, but his love to the nature and theme bought me eventually, and I loved the series.

I totally disagree. Brian Cox does seem lost at times, but that is more because he gets so immersed into whatever mystery he is explaining, that he himself moves to some other level. His passion and love for explaining such intricate details (whole world's Gold is no more than 3 Olympic pools) is amazing. And, teh way he related such esoteric topics to real life is simply superb.
This series is the most reinvigorating series I have ever witnessed.
I feel bad though, as its new season isn't coming anytime soon.

I must admit to initially finding Cox's presentation a little jarring when I watched the first episode of "...Solar System"

Perhaps I was setting the "Attenborough" benchmark far too high, because he is perhaps the greatest Natural Science TV presenter ever!

But then once I had got over those distractions I was able to focus completely on his explanations of our Solar System over the remaining 4 episodes. And it was really enjoyable and informative journey, and I was yearning for more!

Cox's presentation style certainly differs to the likes of Attenborough & Sagan; but he certainly knows his stuff! His enthusiasm is what makes the show so engrossing; a bit like David Bellamy and his botany programs from the 70s and 80s. He too exuded the same enthusiasm, perhaps because he didn't want to come across as some kind of dusty old Professor- he wanted to make each episode fun for the viewer to latch onto.

And so to Cox. Get over the voice and the grin, and you realise he is a great presenter - a genuine presenter; not some anonymous voice-over reading from a script.

Hope he continues to broadcast!
