Ending (MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD)

Hi everyone. My Mum and I have just finished watching this film and both disagreed in our opinions about the ending. Do you guys think that Sawako and Kenichi got back together or broke up? The film left things up in the air. I thought she probably ditched him, whereas my Mum feels she gave him another chance. If anyone who can speak Japanese could provide any insight that would be great.
