in the last 100 years", the screen shows the wikipedia page of missing persons... but many of the descriptions reference people who disappeared in the UK or other parts of the world far from Los Angeles.

Yeah, she was trying to convince her sister it was a troll by suggesting other victims worldwide who died during a crossing of a bridge, tunnel, etc. She references all the local names for them.
