this show or hiccups

i actually prefer this show...for me hiccups seems a bit too forced...especially by brett and nancy.....

i do watch hicckups too, but really i think that both brent and his wife are way overacting the part..there's something about being suttle in it all..

Exactly what I just said on the Hiccups board, it seemed "forced"

Dan For Mayor's better for sure.

reply

I will say I prefer Hiccups.
I laughed more with with hiccups, and didn't find Dan for Mayor that funny.
I hope both shows do well though since was a huge corner gas fan

This show is hilarious! The first episode last week had so many quotable moments:
-To the next mayor!
- Yeah, to Bud
- I meant Dan
- Oh, we're humoring the kid?

And, when Bud got hit by the bus, I did not see that coming! I'm definitely going to watch this show every week, it's got the makings of a hit comedy. However, I'm not sure how long they can run with this storyline (what happens when the election comes? Does he become Mayor?). I don't know, but I'll enjoy watyching it to find out.

My only critiques: at first it seemed like Fred was playing the same character as he did in "corner Gas', and I would like him to be more distinct from Hank.
And, I'm not sure if Dan's ex-girlfriend's boyfriend is supposed to be a bad guy or are we supposed to like him. Because he seems to be out to get Dan.

As for Hiccups: I didn't laugh much at all at the first episode. I thought it was interesting when it turns out she's a popular children's author, but I'm not sure if I would keep watching it. IT DIDN"T HOOK ME LIKE "Dan for Mayor" did.

The show just have to find it's legs, and the actors have to get their timing and chemistry going..

WE also have to stop thinking of DAN as HANK.. that was a major problem for me.. i kept expecting Hank-isms that just aren't part of the character (other than being a slacker).

The "boyfriend" character though.. he should be hit by a bus.. There is something just not right with him... he looks/acts like a Robot.. he's stiff and uncomfortable...

And of course he is going to become the villain.. i wouldn't be surprised if he ran against Dan, Dan loses the mayoral-ship race but wins the girl back proving that he is no longer a slacker..

reply

I liked the boyfriend in the first episode, but then suddenly in the second episode he became kind of a dick. I think they're setting it up so she gets back with Dan eventually. That's what it seemed like in the second episode: she still has feelings for him and wants to suport him.

- IM BACK BAY-BEE!!!!

reply

Dude Dan is totally Hank, that why it's good.

reply

/Dude Dan is totally Hank\
- I thought this same thing during the first episode, but it is clear that he is not as retarded as Hank. Hank was the token dumb sitcom character, who has the intelligence of a 5 year old. Dan has the intelligence of a 14 year old. That's the difference.

Ya, I guess I was wrong about Fred Ewanuick, he obviously has an enormous acting range.

i prefer dan for mayor. the jokes seem forced in hiccups and they usually fall short.

Yup, and Wanda is almost as irritating as Sarah Palin.

um, don't you mean milly...lol..wanda was on corner gas

I do really like this show! It feels refreshing!

dan is hank....usually i'd say i hate typecasting..when an actor keeps on playing the same type of character..but you know what, it totally works for me, him being hank like that's his forte...and i think it's great..

Hank was completely clueless, and border-line mentally challenged. Although Dan's not brilliant, he's much more intelligent than Hank. I don't see them as the same character anymore. Plus, Fred played Hank as a stoner even though it was never written into the show (and I don't get that vibe from dan).

btw: to an earlier poster, a spinoff is when characters from one show are used for a completely different show (ex:The Cleveland Show). Hiccups and DFM are not spinoffs of Corner Gas becasuse none of the saem characters are used (only same actors).

reply

Dan and Hank are complete opposites!

Hank is a dummy and Dan is a slightly more informed dummy.

Big difference!

i agree...i just do not get a feel for that guy....

and really it did catch me from the first eppy i didnt' have a chance to see it for two weeks, because i was in the US....so.....that part sucked, i tell you....i did see part of an eppy on the plane on the way..they had tiny tv's in our chairs....but i missed its run on the east coast, and then didnt' realise it was on the west coast until there was only five minutes left...so..

I wasn't too into Dan for Mayor, but "An Engagement in Hell" has won me over, just them trying to figure out if the guy was gay was hilarious, also the class at end so adorable. ^^

I completely hate hiccups... maybe it's because I hate wanda and (to a much lesser extent) brent from corner gas.

I don't know what is is, but they both just piss me off. at first (watching corner gas) I liked them, but as time went by I began to hate them. they are unfunny and arrogant. how the hell can they even be arrogant? they are both ugly, painfully unfunny and speak with the worst *beep* voices ever.

OBVIOUSLY dan for mayor is the better show.

reply

I live in the US and have been a fan of Corner Gas for years. I was very excited about the fact that two spinoff's were being made. Unfortunately only one of those two are any good. Hiccups is waaaay over the top and not funny at all. I almost feel embarrassed for everyone who is on it. It's tough to watch. Why is Wanda over acting everything? At least Dan For Mayor is funny and grounded. Fred is so great to watch and his ensemble cast are very funny. I like the show much more than Hiccups.

reply

definately..i kept on watching gas, not for them, but for the other characters...mostly davis...he was so cute.....

i felt the same way, from time to time i'll tune into a rerun...but as soon as those two come onto the show, i flip the station....

all the others i love, like oscar, emma, lacy's voice grates me though...lol...but i kept on watching for davis, to me he and hank were so the best characters of the show....

D'uh, Dan for Mayor Airs right after Hiccups. It's not like they air on competing networks at the same time.

reply

Dan for Mayor is the better show.

reply

It's not even close. Dan For Mayor is a great show, easily as good as Corner Gas and more of my type of humour anyway. It's a show that could have success south of the border as well.

Hiccups is an unfunny atrocity, the worst of Canadian TV.

reply

Was able to finally catch up on all the Season 1 episodes of Dan for Mayor and Hiccups. Out of the two, I really like Dan for Mayor.

Hiccups is okay. I'm still on the fence on if I like it or not. Hiccups just tries to hard too be like Seinfeld/Just Shoot Me.

However, both shows just reminded me of how great Corner Gas truly was.

although i always defend our shows...i agree.....hiccups isn't exactly our best..

oh, and these two are not spin offs from corner gas.....they are their own shows, with the same actor...a spin off, has the same characters, you know like cheers and fraser.......those two were spin offs....from one another....
