So what does 'Jamone' actually mean?

I was thinking about how they had Joe explain it, and it occurs to me that South Park has parodied MJ saying that as well, but does anyone know who or what it actually refers to, or is it just some made up word?

I know it's a dirty game, but it's the only one The Man left us to play.

reply

I just always assumed it was a made up word.

I always thought it was just the words, 'jam on' said really fast. I could be wrong, though.

"B***h?! It is 5:30!"

Dang never thought of that, you could be right.

Agreed

Genius can't be expressed in 100 chars or less.

These guys are right. It's just "Come On"

My closed caption said Shamone...but they aren't always the most accurate people lol

"According to Spike Lee, from his Bad 25 documentary, "Shamone" "isn't just a cool way to say "come on," but MJ's tribute to soul singer Mavis Staples, who used it in a live version of "I'll Take You There" in 1975."

Thank you, sadettin46! I was just about to reference that documentary. All these years and I never knew he was paying respect to Mavis Staples and she sure as heck was sayin' "shum on!" during that song. If you listen to the regular song, you can hear her clearly. MJ borrowed from the best, didn't he?

That was a WONDERFUL documentary, too. I learned alot about MJ that I never knew. Especially the "shum on!" fact.
