After watching Se7en for the first time a few weeks ago, I instantly realized that the scene with Nathaniel is a tribute. A religious nut, he's got a crazy apartment, the detective is given the choice of whether or not to kill him...

I've played this game copiously and seen Panic Room quite a few times. How is Heavy Rain like Panic Room? Other than the overall dark, suspenseful tone?

I hope our little game isn't causing you to perspire.

Ahhh, you're right. They were rather similar. I hadn't noticed that.

Well, I'm actually quite fond of David Fincher's work. Se7en in particular was an excellently well-done thriller. Panic Room was good. And Fight Club, though not a thriller, was an incredible film. That said, you're right. If David Cage wants to be a major arthouse video game-maker, he's gotta expand his horizons and take his inspiration from more than just one film-maker. Otherwise he's just a copycat.

I hope our little game isn't causing you to perspire.

Heavy Rain has a lot more in common with Saw than you give it credit for though - at least, the first film. The sequels relied on gore, but the first film has the same atmosphere that Heavy Rain has and it's not a gory film - I don't know if you've seen the first film but the media has blown it out of proportion, as it's not a violent or gory film.

There's about 10 seconds worth of violence in it and it's not even on screen, it's suggested. Heavy Rain and Saw (the first one only) are extremely similar. It's a shame the sequels went down the gore for entertainment route, they are vastly inferior to the first film imo.

Calm down. You sound like you're having a stroke.

Hereafter has a bit in common wit this game - there are two kids, one is called Jason, and when I predicted he would get run over, and he did, I lol'd It seemed too close of a reference to be a coincidence.

I...drink...your...MILKSHAKE!

This game kind of reminds me of a modern-day version of LA Confidential.

The guy at the frot desk at the Motel reminded me of Norman Bates. From what I remember, his lines were similar to when Janet Leigh was signing in to the Bates Motel in Psycho.

And Madison's scene in Paco's 'private place' seems like a fairly direct reference to "Lost Highway".
