Maybe it isn't anything but WHen Kyle's mom called his cell the first time and Jackie answered, the mom didn't respond. Then, later in the movie when Kyle answered when he was staying with his friend he said "hello? Mom?" and she didn't say anything. I felt like I was missing something here..... Thanks!

That really bothered me too. I didn't get why she never said anything, so creepy.

I thought maybe we were going to find out that the calls were from someone else and that it was related to how Kyle always seemed to have enough money

She didn't say anything, most likely, because she was ashamed of herself for not taking proper care of her son.
