Where would you rank it in terms of McCarthy's other films?

I think it's probably his worst but 'worst' is relative. Still think it's a brilliant film but I was more impressed by The Station Agent and The Visitor.

I was disappointed by it. Not in the same league as The Station Agent. The Visitor was better also.
As with the others it was very understated but I didn't feel the same warmth towards the characters.

This is probably Tom's best film to date. It has an overall feelgood warmth to it and sympathy for all it's characters. Very good job in casting.

I loved them all, but for me:

The Visitor
The Station Agent
Win, Win

Win, Win was good, but The Visitor had more of an emotional resonance and The Station Agent was funnier. But I plan to buy all three.

reply

i am with sandifay62, all three films are great movies IMO but the visitor is #1

reply

The Station Agent 8/10
The Visitor 7/10
Win Win 3/10

reply

It's not a bad movie, pretty flawed, but not bad, but it's a distant 3rd in McCarthy's anthology.

reply

agreed, still a good movie but the visitor and station agent were much stronger

Am I the only one who didn't like The Visitor? I thought it was preachy and didactic. The characters didn't ring true for me like they did in The Station Agent and here in Win, Win - which I consider a rebound film for McCarthy - and possibly his best (at least most polished and complete) film.

I would rank as follows:

Win, Win - 8.5/10
The Station Agent - 8/10
The Visitor - 5/10

I look forward to what McCarthy gives us next.

After watching over 1200 movies I have only given 10s to around 30 films. One of those films is The Station Agent, one of my favorite works period.

The Station Agent 10/10
The Visitor 8/10
Win Win 7/10

All three were very good, but station agent was on a whole different level...

I agree with your ranking msteph. I went into the Station Agent not expecting much, and came out of it wanting to know those people and spend time with them. He really has a knack for writing likable yet deeply flawed people.

reply

This is his best movie but I like his other two movies as well.

reply

Win Win - 10/10
The Visitor - 9/10
The Station Agent - 7/10

They're all quite good. He hasn't made a bad film yet.

I agree with those who said this wasn't in the same league as the Station Agent, but that movie is unquestionably brilliant. I liked this a lot though, it had a lot of heart.

Man, McCarthy really knows how to make a film.

I was also not big on The Visitor. It was a good film, but I feel it relied too heavily on the political side of the issue, and I feel like more time should have been spent with Walter's relationship with the two immigrants before Tarik was arrested (one of the reasons I loved The Station Agent is because it simply let the characters interact and the relationships grow from there). I would rank them like this.

1. The Station Agent (a beauty of a film)
2. Win Win (a close second, as I loved the characters and the story)
3. The Visitor (loved Richard Jenkins, but this film tried did not feel as smooth).

The Visitor 10/10
The Station Agent 8/10
Win Win 7/10

reply

Last, but still good.

I'd say "The Visitor" is his best film.

They are all wonderful. IMO
Station Agent 10/10
Visitor 9.5/10
Win Win 9/10

Loved them all.

Just watched Win Win on HBO last night. Had never even heard of this movie.

My ranking:
1. Station Agent
2. The Visitor
3. Win Win

The Station Agent is a terrific movie that's emotional, and funny, and just plain interesting to watch.

I liked the other 2 also. Not sure how to rank them, because I thought that The Visitor was a very simple film that was extremely well executed. Win Win, on the other hand, is a more ambitious film, but it's not as successful as The Visitor. Win Win, however, is also probably more entertaining for most people. I can't rank these two. That's my 2 cents.
