The brother is a prick!

I've only been watching bits and pieces of this movie, but every scene I see I wanna kick the brother in his nuts! Such a lame ass!

"U don't have to like me...but you do have to PAY me!!!"

yes! very envious and annoying.

I don't judge Sean to harshly. He had to grow up with Deon getting all the attention. Deon even slept with the girl that Sean liked without a second thought. No loyalty at all. Treated women like sex objects and nothing more. Deon was a prick and didn't even know he was being a prick. That's how bad it was. Then turn the tables and now Sean has to be the bread winner along with his mother. Sean has a right to be a prick.

reply

I'm sorry but when your older, more popular, superstar brother get cancer that does not give you the right to be a prick. He is extra lame and his brother has nothing to do with him not getting the attention...maybe if he had a talent or tried make a name for himself Deion wouldnt have gotten all the attention. That is a lame excuse to be a prick. Any person that can try to swell up and be a tough guy against a skinny frail cancer patient deserves to suffer!

Nah, the brother had a right to vent his anger towards his brother. He had done it previously before his brother had cancer, when the brothers friend was bad mouthing him and he didn't stick up for him.

Plus mom and Eric were like oh man, you could hurt your brother, he would get us far.

Deon could do no wrong in the very beginning, while he was going around screwing all the woman, took the one chick his brother liked, and then acted shock and cried like a baby when his brother put the moves to the chick he did like. Now he was like that ho is cheating on me.

The film showed a very good range in family relations. I liked it.

Sean wasn't a prick Deon had everything handed to him in life and did nothing to earn it Deon didn't even go to class despite getting a 100% free education where as Sean had to work 3 jobs and study his a$$ off to get his education then you take into account the fact that Deon was doing nothing to help the family with HIS medical bills nor had he ever done anything to help anyone else muchless his family id say given the details any one would be upset with Deon.

Even when his family was fixing to lose there house both parents losing there businesses and brother killing himself working plus trying to get his education Deon could really careless about getting a job to help out he quit the job at the college because in his words "cleaning up after people is BS" my question is who wouldn't be upset if you're killing your self to pay someone else's medical bills and when healthly there not willing to work because some girl didn't pay him attention?

Deon did everything to earn it; he played well enough football in college to be considered a lottery pick in the NFL. NFL >= Ivy league school.

reply

Running with a ball in your hand is not earning anything he didn't EARN his education which is why in the end when he couldn't play ball anymore they kicked him to the curb you have to actually learn in college or you won't last and football does not equal a future education does.

BS all you want, but NFL lottery pick > Ivy League School.

For one, it is far harder to do.

reply

So you actually think being able to run with a ball equals actually deserving to go to an Ivy League School???? tell me how that works out when you slack off at college in real life and get kicked off the team and have to drop out of school and can't find a job tell me how many NFL players are or have filed for bank ruptcy just in the last few years???? bottom line playing sports doesn't mean you deserve anything studying your a$$ off and succeeding in school means you deserve it not just getting by because of sports people that just get by because of spots end up being lonely bums once they get injured and can't play anymore or get to old to play no one cares about them anymore.

Stop your stupid BS, trying to make it to the NFL pros is FAR harder than making it to an Ivy League college.

Easier said than done.

Sounds like someone has been playing Madden too many times and think that's how easy it actually is.

reply

Really is that why a wholeeeeeeeeee lot more actual college STUDENTS do something with there lives then NFL players who the majority end up being worthless bums in there 30's????? do you have any idea how many former NFL players have filed for bank ruptsy???? there's a reason the majority end up going broke with no one to give a $hit about them nothing in life that's free is better then what's EARNED and playing a childs game is not in any way shape or form EARNING anything oh and BTW *beep* his character DIDN'T MAKE IT TO THE NFL retard he ended up hurt and when he couldn't play anymore he ended up a homeless bum living off others mean while his brother who actually did hard work in school ended up with the girl and the good job gee i wonder who won there?????

Key point being (as you said), he ended up hurt (with cancer) as the reason why he didn't make it to the pros when he was initially projected to be a lottery pick.

If his brother had gotten cancer (and ended up dying) instead of him, and he made it to the pros, the shoe would be on the other foot.

Which is why running with a ball isn't the same as EARNING an education no one can take anything away from you that you've earned he was GIVEN a chance at an education because of his football talents he blew it that's why he wasn't able to stay in school after he got kicked off the football team if his brother had gotten cancer instead of him he'd still be able to go to school and finish and have something in his life other then being 40 and talking about that play you made 20 years ago now that's sad.

If his brother got cancer, most likely he wouldn't be able to do anything either. Bad health DOES affect school-work and work life.

reply

It might have affected his work but not his schooling he'd still be able to study while in the hospital in fact during the times i've been in the hospital that was one of the only things i could do was either read a book or study not much else to do and his job would be waiting for him when he got out of the hospital because HE EARNED IT he wouldn't have lost his job because he got sick that would be illegal on his employers part.

spoken like a person whose done neither (played high level football or attended an Ivy League university)....a 'lottery pick' does not trump an Ivy League Education (the school perhaps but I doubt it) and even 'playing' in the NFL doesn't trump the assets gained from being taught by some of the most gifted educators in higher ed, experiencing the peer interaction of those with potential to redefine society as we know it, and some of the best hard science facilities available to non-professionals.

But if you are still deluding yourself that a lottery pick trumps the ivies, you need only recognize after the short life span of the top tiered NFL player (8 years) is max'd out it is the ivy educated that the NFLer turns too. After the concussions and the onset of early arthritis due to the stressful career of the NFL, it is the ivy educated doctors the players hopes can make him whole again. When the NFL player wants to negotiate his contract, wants to start a business with the millions, or wants restitution from the league for the concussions and health issues of the 'job' it's the ivy educated lawyer he turns too. See even NFL players don't turn to other NFL players when they need something done and they can tell you that a 'lottery pick' doesn't trump an ivy league 'school'.

reply

Don't kid yourself. As a professional athlete, you can make $500,000 a year minimum, while if you go through Ivy League school with student loans, it'll be many years if not decades before you reap the fruits of your education and salary.

If an athlete is smart, he'll save some of the money and hire someone to invest it; with millions to invest, it will EASILY turn into investment gains of $100,000+ each year, the same as a doctor or lawyer can make each year.

Also...who are you to say that playing in the NFL is not an education in itself that trumps school? There are millions of doctors in the U.S. but only a handful of thousands of NFL players. What is to say that the teachings of the very select few thousands is not an EDUCATION in itself?

Education doesn't have to be in the sciences, nor in the traditional classroom. If entertainment and sports is not a vocation, neither are the arts.

To a certain extent, I can understand why he's acting like a prick. I think anyone in that situation would act the same way too. Deon was favored among his family because they saw big things going for him. How would that make you feel growing up? Plus the stress from the tumor and the treatments was too much for everyone involved.

Although I hated the way he treated Deon towards the end. Especially treating him like a burden over something he had no control over.

[DATA EXPUNGED]

reply

Both brothers were pricks.

Deon treating women like temporary sex objects (e.g. passes off the girl he met at the gym as a "sociology teacher"), also attempting to go for Sharon while his brother was at the same time. After catching them together kissing, he was like "what the *beep*, you *beep* my girlfriend, you got some explaining to do" (to Sean).

Sean was a prick because though he has the right to be a prick (Deon being favored in the family), at times he was not correct in his words and actions. e.g. when he shoved Deon over that glass table and then blaming the 3rd black guy for pushing his buttons.

I've only been watching bits and pieces of this movie,
This is called "taking things out of context". Come back when you've watched the entire movie, then you'll see that Sean had to struggle for his accomplishments while Deon had everything handed to him; and then, when Deon is sick, the only suffering he recognizes is his own. Sean finally had enough… and while it might not have been "right", if you had actually watched the movie and not just "bits and pieces", you would probably understand Sean a little better.

Dude this was posted years ago. Since then I've seen the movie several times all the way through and I STILL feel like the brother was a total d!ck! I would never treat anyone like that...especially my brother! The fact that you justify that type of behavior is sad.

Dude this was posted years ago.
Three years this Christmas Eve. If your posts have expiration dates on them, why do you bother replying?

They don't have expiration dates, but I think it's fairly obvious that in the course of 3 years, things change. It seems like upon seeing the date in the post you would naturally make that assumption. It really doesn't matter. We both gave our opinions. Mission accomplished.
