Good movie but too much man-crying
The Koreans have started making very good historical war movies within the last ten years. WAR OF THE ARROWS (2011) is a must see, involving the invasion of Korea by the rising Manchurian Dynasty in 1622. Now for the 20th century there's TAE GUK GI and now comes the interesting movie and concept, MY WAY (Mei Wei).
I like the Korean war movies but there's just so much man-crying in it that I'm starting to become very uncomfortable. Compared to western war movies and Chinese and Japanese war movies, all the men in Korean war movies break down and weep uncontrollably frequently. I can't bring myself to believe that Koreans actually cry that much. Perhaps it's their culture and it's okay for men to cry, weep, and sob uncontrollably, as well as do a lot of shrieking; maybe it's a sincere form of sympathy expression. I don't know. But I'm not used to seeing so much uncontrolled loud crying to amounts to screams and shrieks. MY WAY is no exception. The Korean guys do a lot of crying in the movie. Curiously, the Japanese depicted don't do any crying although they are portrayed as bloodythirsty, remorseless killers by the Korean director. No surprise there. The Russians and the Germans in the movie don't do any crying so it must be a Korean thing.
