did anyone notice a Sav.PVT Ryan Line?

First of all I'm not going to bash My Way, Yes it did take liberties with the WWII facts But I liked it….Now when the Americans hit the beach,You can hear some english G.I. yelling. Listen carefully When Tom Hanks is at the Tank Trap there is a Navy Seal there preparing to blow it. He tells Hanks TO TAKE A NUMBER….You hear that line in MY WAY!!! O.K. I have to say this Just for the fun of it, list all the mistakes with the Normandy Invasion…I'II start..The B-17 bombing raid was at night and didn't hit nuthin but some cows several miles in land..The initial landing was early morning, crappy and rainy weather, When the two buddies where first caught in the pill box,why didn't they slide out of the big square cut out of the front. The biggest what the??????? The airborne drop right behind the bunkers????? except for the guy who didn't know about foreigners in the German Army. Everyone knows the Airborne jumped the night before miles and miles inland!

Someone else noticed!

Actually several sequences were mirrored and I couldn't help but think it was some kind of reference.

Another example was when they were climbing up the side of the hill - when Hanks takes Tom Sizemore's gum. There is a shot of the same setup in My Way.

As for the liberties taken, were harpoons used? Not in Ptivate Ryan, but from actual events. Some scenes in My Way had me thinking they got more descriptive with Normandy than Spielberg.

I'm not sure what you mean by "harpoons"? Are you talking about grappling hooks fired from a tube? The grapling hooks where not needed at "Omaha Beach" you may be thinking of other landing sites thatAltho did have cliffs. I didn't notice the gum scene,i'll look again. Did you hear the "take a ticket line"?

I like Korean war movies. Althou exaggerated and incorrect facts they are exciting. I wish they would use voice overs. I don't care if the lips don't match the lines, I don't like the reading.

The version I've just watched was in English but it did have the original Korean if you wanted it.

I also noticed the inaccuracies of the Normandy shots.

The other scenes that were a bit strange were

1) they built a pontoon bridge across a river but left no force to protect the crossing

2) the Russian pilot came back to shoot up a single man on foot?

3) The first battle scene with the Germans and Russians in the city. I can understand that the Russians may have had some flags with them but I doubt very much that the Germans did.

With the grappling hooks - the only time I've seen them used on D-Day was as shown in 'The Longest Day' when the Rangers went up the cliff at Pointe-Du-Hoc. I went to that are in 1996 and it's very impressive to see how high the cliff really is. The area has been left with a lot of shell holes to give it some 'feel'. The shell holes aren't all one size and spaced evenly as you see in some Belgian exhibits for WWI - it's more like Vimy Ridge or Verdun - even Gallipoli.

korean movies and shows have great action in them, but i have noticed they love to take creative license with facts...not just in this movie, and even though there were some inaccuracies, and more of them towards the end, it did not detract from the story too much...im thinking they ran out of both time and money to shoot the battle of normandy in the right weather and the correct timing of the attacks and compressed it...its understandable even if it is erroneous...

if you guys ever get the chance to watch the series "comrades" which is the korean war from the perspective of koreans on both sides, they have some out of context junk in there too...like huey UH-1 helicopters in the 1950's (they would not be even invented for at leas another 10 years)...and the music is horrible...

from the "lets be friends" theme song, to misplaced mood music throughout the series, "comrades" sometimes makes me roll on the floor laughing...(just watch a few episodes and you will see what i mean) but i was happy that this movie did not have too much cheesy music in it...just the disney-esque end credits music, other than that the score was pretty good and appropriate...

so while corny and over-dramatic seems to be par for the course for korean films, this one was actually a bit toned down...and im actually kind of impressed...regardless of certain inaccuracies in the film, and the compression of normandy...

Great movie BUT

we see the Americans overwhelm the Germans quickly

they did not

( then again Im basing that on " Omaha" beach- the opening scene in Pvt Ryan) may be it did go easier in other parts of Normandy

The Americans shooting grappling hooks DID happen at the cliffs of Pt Du Hoc further down the beach, but I never heard of it happening at pill boxes....

and the paratroopers landing right next to the beach? I heard that was the problem- all the US paratroopers landed way too far inland.

The bombers at first light? Ive read the bombers came in too early and too far inland to be effective. The way it plays out in this movie is how the Allied brass WANTED it to go I bet. Bombers demolish the bunkers, Rangers swoop in from the water and Paratroopers swoop in from in land!

And I didnt get how the Asians AND the Germans didnt have military haircuts at Normandy. Surely the Germany Army would have sent them all to a military barber. That blonde German officer with long hair?

GREAT movie- imperfect history.

Was that a Japanese or Russian (Chinese) fighter chasing the lead character?

DId they film this all in Korea?
