Good but not THAT good.

I like these type of coming of age movies that are set in the 60's. I just watched the British movie An Education an loved it. The movie Flipped by Rob Reiner was brilliant and the 80's series The Wonder Years is one of the best series ever.
That's What I Am reminded me a bit of The Wonder Years but I didn't connect to the characters as much I would have liked to.
The movie has a bit too many cliches with the attempt to be sincere rather than actually being sincere like the ones I mentioned. Many of the characters were a bit too bland for me.

I don't know about the cliches part, but I agree that it was decent, but it fell a little short. I expected a little bit more. I wanted Mr. Simon to go toe to toe with the Freel's and the ignorant people of the community and have Andy's mom on one side of the issue and his dad on the other. Also to have Andy and Stanley and Norman have to stand up to the school and address the issue.
And even if the movie ended the same way, I wanted that storytelling to take place.

"Do you even remember what you came here to find?"
