A limited, limited release

Usually when a film gets a limited release, there's at least one theater in New York that gets it. This film, which looks quite interesting, isn't playing anywhere above the Mason-Dixon line. Nothing I can do about that.

I'll be honest, as a Southerner I loved that. How many times is it the other way around? A cool new movie comes out and the rest of the country has to wait for the more sophiscated New York and LA to enjoy it for awhile.

Besides, I wonder how many people north of the Mason-Dixon even know who the hell Hank Williams is anyway.

A lot of people, my friend, a lot.

The average Northerner is more likely to know who Hank was than he is to know who Richard Petty is.

reply

Maybe that's a blessing in disguise. The trailer makes southerners out to be yokels.

I was born in Bridgeport, CT. The states largest city and really just a smaller version of NYC, and even I know who Hank Williams is and the contributions he brought to music.

Now I live South of the Mason Dixon line, and it shocks me that more folks south of it, don't know who he is, or what he has done.

Is there really anyone in the US that hasn't heard of Hank Williams?

I mean I'm over in the UK and everyone I know has at least heard of him, I'm a big fan of his work and really looking forward to this.

It's going wide on June 22.

When did that happen?

I could care less, but I don’t care enough to bother.

Well, other than you, how many people in New York City do you think would be interested in a Hank Williams biopic? In fact, how popular is country music on the East Coast (seriously, it's an actual question - been wonderin' myself 'bout that for quite some time now)? I read in a Johnny Cash biography that he used to tour around the East Coast, but those were different times back then, don't know how much it all applies to this day.

Of what I can tell from the New Yorkers I've met, they look down on country music and the country lifestyle, like it's inferior to eatin' sushi, or goin' to art galleries, or "European film festivals"... you know what I mean. LA people are more laid back, enjoyin' the sun and all.

I live in Upstate NY & I know quite a few people,(including myself,)that are country music fans & know who he is. You don't have to live in the South to like country music

@eddy089

You're a moron who doesn't know what they're talking about.

The average New Yorker doesn't eat sushi, doesn't go to art galleries or European film festivals.

They go bowling with their union or job team. Or fishing with their school buddies and their kids, if they can drag the little bastards away from their video games.

If they're single, they go on a Friday night date to the movies and a chain restaurant or diner. If they're married, they get dragged to mall or worse yet, their in-laws by the old ball and chain.

Once a year, they go on vacation somewhere with the family for a week or so. If they haven't had to put all their money into their crappy ten year old car to keep it going because they can't afford to buy a newer one.

@Lokisgodhi

I'm gonna step over the fact that you called me a moron in a sentence you misspelled, because I don't go around picking fights on the Internet.
What I said was out of personal experience, from the times I went to New York to see an ex-girlfriend of my dad's, and based on the people I've met over there.
Your examples look really personal, like you're the blue-collar, union job family guy you describe as the "average New Yorker". If that's the case, you deserve (and have) all the respect in the world.
If not, I'm sorry for the minute I wasted typing this reply to you.

Best regards

I called you a moron because you made an asinine statement based on your admittedly limited personal experience that common sense should have told you was simply untrue.
