a hot mess...

I get it. I get what they were trying to do. I appreciate the work they put into it, but what a hot mess of editing and poor cinematic photography as well as horribly fake special effects to indicate weather.

You have to really care about Mr Williams to make it through this.

All of what you say is true, and I do care about Mr. Williams so I watched the whole thing. I liked Henry Thomas' portrayal, balancing the swagger of Hank with his fear of strangers. But I had problems with the rear-screen (or whatever it is called now, "green screen"?) effect in the car shots. Totally took it out of reality. Was the outside world not available?

Piss poor acting, really poor green screen effects, many of the automobiles in the movie were not true the times. Mr. "Wells" Smith and Wesson revolver had modern "Pachmeyer" grips first seen in the 1970's. Low budget at its worst. As one who is very fond of Hank Williams, I will have to express my disappointment.
