I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive.

When I read the description of Last Ride, I immediately got excited, hoping it was a movie based on the book I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive. The book is about a morphine addicted former doctor who lives in the slums of San Antonio in 1963. To support his habit, he essentially runs an abortion clinic out of his apartment and when he pounds dope he is haunted by his former patient Hank Williams, whom he supplied the final dose of drugs that killed him 11 years before. It's a wonderful book, but obviously not for anyone who can't root for drug addicts, dealers, pimps, whores, and every other type of persons barely hanging on.

Interesting sounding book. This is the first I've heard of it, but I'm probably going to have to go looking for it now. Sorry the movie wasn't what you were expecting, but thanks for the tip about this book.
