authentic

is this movie really authentic, or is it just a guess of how Hank Williams last 3 days were?

reply

It's a guess but it doesn't matter. No movie is authentic anyhow.

There is plenty of documentation on Hank you'd think they could do it right. I can't understand why they would make of movie about him and only include the last three days of his life when his story is incredible and definitely worthy of a movie. It's frustrating.

As a longtime fan of Hank Sr., and having only seen the trailer, I can only comment that I WILL NEVER WATCH THIS MOVIE. Why do we have such a fascination with making remarkable human beings into such wretched trash? Yeah, some of the facts about Hank are there, but PLEASE. How can you sell a movie about one of the greatest singer-songwriters who ever lived and NOT include his music? Unfathomable.

reply

Really? Maybe his last days are acurately portrayed? Were you there? I am pretty sure they didn't just make up a bunch of crap about him and put it on film. Without ever seeing the movie how can you possibly tell it'll be bad? At the VERYT least, if you are a Williams fan, you'd like the soundtrack.

Idiots who don't SEE movies but post critiques are "TRASH"!

I have seen it and the filmmakers botch the ending in a big way. There is enough known about the details of Williams' death (time, location, circumstances, etc.) to do it right, or at least accurate.

I hated this movie but thought Thomas gave a great performance as a very unlikable but iconic Williams.

reply

Because no one would care if Williams had lived a long full life and fulfilled his potential.

People revere Williams not for what he accomplished but because of what was lost from his premature death.

Hank Williams is Charlie Parker(a HW fan!), Patsy Cline, Otis Redding,Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones, Jim Morrison, etc., etc.

However, the real truth is Hank Williams is the white version of Robert Johnson. What RJ did for Delta Blues music, Hank Williams did for Country music. Yet those two are so close musically if they knew each other, they would be good friends.

There is barely a trace of Hank Williams left in modern country music, it's an absolute joke.

Hank Williams is more embraced by the rock pioneers from the early 1960's, vs. modern country robotic stars.

The credits say "the following is mostly true" and I believe it. Good movie.
