He did Cranford.

In fairness, he is a pretty good actor(nothing special I admit, we are not talking a De Niro, Day-Lewis, Hopkins, and so on). I think that he just never wanted to be a star. He has other interests as well.

Even if she did, what's wrong with it? He suited the role.
