Will outsiders get it?

"It is clear that Spurlock an his cavalcade of celebrity cameos (from Con regulars like Kevin Smith and Joss Whedon, to horror director Eli Roth and Olivia Qilde) are fans, and I did enjoy how sincere the movie was. Instead of poking fun at these people, it celebrates them and the joy of going to a place full of people who share your interests (which others may look down upon). The movie moves quickly and is light and enjoyable, but like Spurlock’s other documentaries, refuses to really engage in anything beyond “Isn’t this fun?!” Fans will appreciate being represented in a movie, but wont hear anything new – and outsiders still won’t get it."

Having never been to a Comic Con or even outside my own country(South Africa), but being a comic, game and sci-fi/fantasy fan for years, i thought this movie was absolutely brilliant. I saw it this weekend at a local film festival and from the moment it started, i was hooked. Spurlock really knows how to carry the emotions from the participants across. I laughed, i was almost in tears and felt elation when the one artist(the soldier) got very positive feedback. I think the aim of a movie is to evoke some sort of emotional response from the viewer, and in this case, i think it worked. The fact that I'm not an attendee is not an issue, or that i may not have gotten a real understanding of who everyone was either. Emotion is universal even if the setting may be somewhat foreign. Two thumbs up Morgan.
