the book?

Has anyone here read that book?
Is it a good material for tension filled thriller?

reply

john.

One of my fave authors.

I loved The Job, The Big Picture, The Woman in the Fifth also.

I really loved Temptation and The Dead Heart.

I'm not as keen on the books where he writes first person about a woman. Just not my thing.

I haven't but would like to. I thought the book was superb. There looks to be a French movie being made out of The Big Picture. But it doesn't credit Douglas Kennedy, must be an oversight on IMDB's part.

.....the synopsis is too close to not be it.

I just finished the book (haven't see the film yet), but it is clear from what others have said that they definitely changed the plot for the movie, which apparently is ambiguous about what is actually happening (which makes sense, as people would definitely NOT like it, if it followed the book). I enjoyed the book for the first 250 pages - and then it completely derails and I wound up disliking it intensely. SPOILER ALERT: in the book, it becomes clear that Margit had killed herself back in 1980 and the woman Harry (Tom in the film)is interacting with is a vengeful ghost, with apparently unlimited powers for deciding the fate of others, including Harry. There is no 'logical' explanation for this - you have to accept the supermatural element as is... which seemed facile and, ultimately, stupid.

Aloha!

Just finished watching this film on Netflix.

I just read the book about a month ago - totally different!

Many, many plot points, characters, etc. were changed - the film only vaguely resembles the book.

The book was very good I thought and the film was enjoyable - but it will confuse you if you are looking for the same storyline as the book!

It confused me without even knowing it was based on a novel. It didn't made much sense.

Couldn't agree more with douggordy. Loved "The Job" and "The Moment" by Kennedy.
Had the film on whilst still having to do smth on PC. If a film is good, it makes me leave the PC. This didn't. I then decided to read the book which is a real pageturner until...then it just annoyed me.
