The only thing that bothers me about this movie

is that Ambrosio was so easily lead astray. He's a devout and not unintelligent man, and he was specifically warned by his mentor - yet he fails to comprehend what's really happening even when it's quite obvious.

I think the story would be stronger if it took more subtlety and persuasion to bring him around. Ultimately his downfall springs from his belief that there are degrees of evil - that some sins are more forgivable than others. This entangles him in a slippery slope that ultimately leads to the movie's conclusion. It would have been nice to see the stages less obvious and his descent less immediate.
