Token Black guy and black girl go together...how original

Is anyone else tired of these cliches? By the looks of the trailer they are the only black students. I guess that's better then none :/

Don't regret anything

Ever notice you never see an Asian couple together.

reply

Ever notice you do, on Glee.

reply

Geez no need to be smart plus I don't watch glee.

Apples to oranges. China only allows its families to have one child. Since there's more prestige in having a boy, many Chinese girls are given up for adoption and wind up in the U.S. That's why you see so many Asian Women with White Men, in case you were wondering.

It's the way Walt Disney would've wanted it.

"Jewnited State of America" or not, Walt Disney is infamous for being a raging anti-Semite.

You do know that the CEO of Disney is Jewish, don't you?

I saw a screening of it last night ... there were some other black girls/guys in the background though. They were just the 2 "popular" kids, pretty much.

reply

That statement is just flat out wrong. The latest census shows White people make up about 62% of the population. Hispanics about 14%, Blacks 12%, Asians 6%, all other minorities 6%. Read some of the government statistics before posting.

...make sure the post above you is related before replying.

Please. Stop crying. They could have left you guys out all together so be happy.

reply

Stop complaining. You may not be aware of this but there are large swaths of this country where there are no black people. Why, because blacks account for only 12% of the American population. You act as if they account for 50%, and that whenever you see a white person there should be a black. IT JUST ISN'T TRUE. So it would not be unusual for there to be High Schools with few black students.

reply

^ So?

Let him/her feel however. I agree with the OP, if they're going to have token characters they could be less predictable about it and mix it up.
We do live in a time where people date interracially, as shocking as it seems.

Oh, and btw, white people are a minority (if you want to use statistics).

Yeah, maybe in Somolia or India. This movie is set in the USA, in which 63.7% of americans are caucasion. 16.3% are hispanic or latino. 12.6% are black. The rest of the races are minute.

You can't just pull crap out of your butt and present it as fact. Look at the following map (it takes a minute to load everything on the map so be a little patient). It shows you the majority racial demographic by area in the USA 2000.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a7/Census-2000-Data-Top-US-Ancestries-by-County.svg

See how the west/southwest is mostly Mexican? The southeast black? See how the rest is basically Caucasian? Beyond the southeast/west/southwest, most of the schools are predominately white. Hell most states are over 85% white by population. Some are literally 97%+.

I moved to FOUR different states throughout my K-12 schooling and only one of them had more than 2 black people in the WHOLE school. This is extremely common in many parts of the USA. Here's the kicker, I WAS ONE OF THEM.

I have no idea where this movie is set but it appears from the trailers to be more of a Midwest type location. In this case, that would make perfect sense that there are a minority of black students. Most states in the Midwest have a 85-95% white population, and a lot of the black population is fixated in certain locations/cities.

Actually, it was set in California.

Oh my,

It seems every single movie forum on here has a thread in which posters get into deep discussions on race...my niece wanted me to take her to see this film, but instead of reading if it's good or bad, I'm getting a newbie history lesson and census statistics....how funny is that! lol

now heres a guy that knows what the hell he's talkin about. and bitching about how they are throwing you under the bus because they didnt mix it up only makes you sound like a bigot and a racist.. just sayin.

and they're responsible for about 75% of crimes committed in the country. To fix America you need to fix the black population. The problem is people waving the politically correct flag think that being politically correct is so important it's an end unto itself. Meanwhile Detroit happens.

Erm. The first-ever actor hired for a live-action role in a Disney film was a Black guy. (Song of the South - 1946) I don't think it's fair to assume Disney had anything against Black people.

The training is NOTHING! The WILL is everything!

reply

^ Song of the south is pretty racist.

reply

i can't believe people are trying to defend this movie or make excuses for why the same old black stereo types are being used. the answer is really simple. this movie is for white people. the fact that tyler perry didn't produce it is enough evidence to support my argument. lolzzz. but seriously, i'm sure that they aren't marketing this movie on BET. its for white people. boooring!!!

reply

Isn't that movie a classic for being racist lol.

reply

If it were all that racist it probably wouldn't have a 7.4 IMDb rating. It's simply set in the South shortly after the Civil War. The setting is a stylistic choice that is meant to complement the rich musical tradition of the former slaves.

Are you joking? Walt Disney was completely racist.

Just saw it. I noticed a few other black students in the school. There is one scene where you see a black guy ask a white girl out to prom then they hug and kiss and...

Spoiler Alert:

They give Tyler (the popular black guy) a white girl on the side. Funny isn't a black guy cheating and leaving the black girl for a white girl cliche too? lol.

This it was no win for Disney. They gave Princess Tiana a non-black guy and a bunch of people got pissed, so...

The actor playing the popular black jock has to be like 30, maybe even 35 years old in real life!!!! He started out as a child actor back in 1990!!!
