WTF?! Victorious is canceled?! Why.....?????

Isn't this their biggest show? I thought this was supposed to be like the new iCarly or something... Wtf? What happened?

Well they really could have gave us a freaking finale at the very least. Like a tv movie sort of thing, tying together loose ends. At least half of Victorious fans started watching this show over the Beck and Tori premise. So they hint at it throughout all four seasons, have Beck try to get with Tori, Tori want to be with him but say no cause she's friends with Jade who is still a complete ***** to Tori, then hint at Beck and Tori some more, then have he and Jade randomly get back together because Beck went on one bad date with a random guest on the show?! I can only end this how I started the thread in the first place.... WTF....

And if I'm missing something, it's probly because I haven't seen the last few episodes, but I doubt they tied anything up.

Nick decided that they hate money, hate their audience, and hate good TV, so they're going to do their best to ruin the network that had an unabridged twenty year reign at the top of the market.

Seriously, victorious was far and away their best show. Sheer stupidity for them to cancel.

I'm going to be serious for a minute and give you a proper reply.

* The cast was expensive. It had 8 main characters (Tori, Trina, Cat, Jade, Beck, Robbie, Andre, Sikowitz), 4 major side characters (Sinjin, Lane, Tori's parents) and another handful of minor recurring characters.
* It was expensive to produce. The production values were skyhigh, from my understanding the asphalt cafe set was an outdoor set away from the studio that was expensive to hire, the constant 'fun extras' shown around the school like the dancers and whatnot were expensive to hire.
* Victoria Justice didn't become the new Miranda Cosgrove. Nick wanted a star to become as popular as Miranda but one they could control (unlike Miranda who had incredibly good representation that gave her pretty much total power over what she did outside filming iCarly).
* The music was expensive to produce, didn't sell in the numbers wanted, and any profit was split between multiple groups because Nick doesn't own a vertical monopoly on music production in the same way that Disney does.
* The show tanked in the ratings. I'll leave the reasons for that out, but it lost viewers at an alarming rate as the show went on.
* Nick needed studio space, schedule space and money free to pay for, and film their new great hope Sam & Cat.

You can argue about how much each aspect caused the cancellation but those are the major reasons.

hah ho peace out suckas!

I would add that the show had HUUUUUGE gaps between new episodes, and lazy writers who had no interest in developing the characters or telling good stories. And sticking Beck and Jade back together towards the end, was clear evidence of a show going nowhere fast. I think they pulled the plug just in time...

It would have had to be very successful because of the expense of the music. Nickelodeon isn't like Disney that they have music production as a part of their empire. Nick has to outsource for the music and it's expensive. And it never sold well.

Everybody has given reasons for the show itself being canceld, but I want to add it was also because of the current financial climate Viacom found itself in, too.

As has already been hinted at, Victorious was created to soley cash in on the music craze Disney hit big with in 2006, 2007... But not only were they three, four years late to the party, more to the point, Victoria Justice did not become the Orange version of Miley Cyrus like they were hoping as others already stated. They just set the bar far too high for one show, unfortunately.

Now, all of this would not have been so bad IF Vicacom's stock hadn't been deavalued early last year.

This was the catalyst that sent a wave of panic through the upper echelons at Viacom, and made them re-evaluate their revenue streams... And Nickelodeon and Victorious just happened to be underperforming. Thus, it was just bad timing and an almost perfect storm of circumstances that helped make the decision to cancel Victorious an almost no-brainer from their perspective.

The sad part is those at Nickeloden who run the network and report to senior management at Viacom were (most likely) more afraid for their jobs than doing what was right for the network, unfortunately. I don't mean just keeping Victorious on, but having more confidence in the OTHER shows they also axed in their slash-and-burn approach to make it look like they were on top of the "problem". Nick has no notable prime-time lineup right now except for Wendle and Vinnie. They cut every single show they had because they were all underperforming when compared to main rival Disney... But that's like Ford cutting every production model of car just because Chrysler might be outselling them at the current moment. It shows no forward thinking at all, IMO.

So, now we are left with the entire network once again pinning their hopes on another Dan Schnieder show... Who IS part of the main problem Nick keeps ignoring... That is based on some of the properties that were underperforming in the first place. Oy, vey.

Well, Dan is their main hope for good prime-time and live-action ratings. So, like I said, they are pining their hopes on him recreating his previous successes in this arena vs. animation.

There will be other live-action shows on Nick of course, but lets face it. Dan is Nick's golden boy, so they are heavily relying on Sam & Cat in the hopes it becomes bigger than either Vcitorious, or iCarly ever were.

Also iCarly never got bad but it did slip in quality, the only reason it stayed on as long as it did was because iSaved Your life got it huge ratings and Miranda was their golden girl. Also the fact that iCarly was a media darling and had big name people willing guest star helped buy it time. You might not think it but every guest star bought the show more time because it gave the show buzz and publicity.

iCarly was also a lot cheaper to make, also iCarly had less people making a steady pay check off the show than Victorious had in the opening and thats inclusing T-Bo and Ms Benson in the mix. If you include Sikowitz, Sinjin, Lane, and burf who are the equivilant of the two I mentioned then thats more. Also Victorious was full of extras compared to iCarly, every set they had minus Tori's house had to have a good deal of extras, iCarly had the groovy smoothie and occasionally school.

Also it got a finale because they knew it was ending. If Miranda had been maybe considering coming back for another season It probably would have been cut when Victorious was. The fact that Miranda called it quits and they knew it was the last season got it a finale cause they knew it was ending.

Also while Sam and Cat might have had a part in it ending it was very slim one. Cat wasnt a integral part of Victorious, she could have easily left for Sam and Cat and the show could have continued with her maybe making the occasional guest appearance.

iCarly was bigger than Victorious. But I agree. They shouldn't have ended either shows. Both shows should still be going today. :-( Especially Victorious. It didn't even have a proper ending.

No Day But Today. Today 4 U. One Song Glory.
How we gonna pay last year's RENT?!

reply

iCarly had to end since the main star was leaving. I'm sorry but you couldn't do iCarly without Miranda, also it was time for it to end.

reply

Wow, this show was just starting to get really, really good and now it's gone. iCarly ran it's course, Victorious had 1 or 2 more seasons left in it. Whenever I watch Sam & Cat I miss the rest of the Victorious cast. :(

Come to think of it, Victorious had the shortest run of any Schneider show. And, to my knowledge, all of the other ones were given movies as their send offs (not sure about All That, but that was a different kind of show, and was on forever). While I agree that Victorious wasn't one of his top 2 or 3 shows, it probably deserved better treatment, it wasn't like it was a complete failure.

reply

me too. Sam and Cat is decent but they don't have the supporting cast that Victorious did. It'll never emerge into anything special.

reply

I 100% agree!!

I love you, Kristen Stewart. :) You are so beautiful and talented. I would love to perform with you.

reply

If you notice, Sam and Cat have a very trimmed down cast. It looks like they were trying to go economic on this show.
