Is this gossip story about Victorious?

71. ENTERTAINMENT LAWYER 03/06 **#13**

Most of the time when a show is at its peak is not when it is canceled. This show was at its peak and viewership was at a high and it could have run for many more years. The cast all wanted it to run for more years, but the network pulled the plug. They were scared of the show. There were too many instances where the network had to put out a fire that would have ruined the image of the show. There were too many drugs on the set and too much sex and the network didn't want a scandal. They just wanted the show to stop filming and to get rid of it as fast as possible. Of course, in their haste they left behind two cast members who were going to turn out just as bad.

While the show was being filmed, guest stars would show up high or know they could get great drugs even though the cast was so young. There are episodes that cast members don't even remember shooting because they were so wasted. The sex was everywhere and the problem for the network was the age of the cast. Some were above 18 and some were below 18 and parents were always calling and screaming and executives feared everyday there would be some type of statutory rape claim or some lawsuit filed by a parent or extra on the show. Everyday the show aired the network felt like they were rolling dice. You had to knock before opening a closed door because inevitably someone would be doing drugs or having sex. No wonder the cast kept wanting to shoot the show. One of the bigger drug users and sexually active cast member was given her own show, or close to her own show. She had producers fooled into thinking she was an innocent cast member and they paired her up with someone who spouted bible verses and producers thought went to church multiple times each week.

This is a gossip story from this week, people are speculating that it is about iCarly but I think any of the former teen shows could fit the bill including Victorious (which was certainly cancelled quite suddenly).

So what do you think? What's your guess? The teen TV show that had a heavy amount of drugs and sex on the set?

reply

I'm going to guess The adventures of Pete and Pete...

reply

Oh of course, make it a show that went off the air over 15 years ago so it doesn't threaten your comfort zone of the shows you've loved in the last 5 years. How convenient.

What is up with you people? There was a time when people would think it was awesome if their favorite TV show had loads of sex and drugs on the set but now you've bought into this nonsense of "That behavior sounds negative in society's eyes so I don't want to believe that it happened"

reply

You don't get it, I don't care about this at all... Also these are not even close to my favorite show. Doctor Who, Teen Wolf, Supernatural, Archer, Community, Breaking Bad, Buffy, Avatar, Sherlock

I'm not in denial, I don't care because drugs and sex are not a big deal to me. They could be smoking meth before each take and blow 10 guys. As long as they are entertaining me I could care less.

Hey I'm at least with you on that part, Jim. I'd love it if Victorious was full of sex and drugs. I hope for their own sake that the cast at least do that stuff on their own.

No, the vast majority of gossip is fake. What they say is realistic on the same level that supernatural or urban legends are realistic and even if there is some true on this gossip they just take it up to eleven. Realize that this thinks actually are the no disturbing/scary version of urban legends.

reply

Again with the "all gossip is fake" garbage. How would you know if you don't follow gossip? Do you read gossip websites? NO!!! I've been reading them for 10 years so I think I'm more qualified to judge their success rate than you are.

Once again for the ten thousandth time:

Gossip knew Demi Lovato was a drug addict before she admitted she was.

Gossip knew CNN's Anderson Cooper was a homosexual before he admitted he was.

You have no proof that gossip isn't quite often TRUE. Deal with it.

reply

I'm not denying or confirming the claims... I'm saying who cares? Its one of the lowest forms of "entertainment" in exsistence.

reply

You list two incidents were gossip was accurate, out of the 1,000 pieces of gossip which come out every day? Fact is, most gossip is false and statistics show that to be true a million times over.

Yes, some gossip is 100% true. But if you believe all gossip because some of it's true, you'll be wrong ten billion times out of ten billion and two. If you disbelieve all gossip because most of it's false, you'll only be wrong twice out of ten billion and two times.

There are no statistics done to calculate what percentage of gossip is true or false, such a thing does not exist. I don't have to sit here and list every single gossip story that has been right in the last 50 years, that's your job by reading gossip sites which you obviously don't do. I can invent my own statistics: 99 percent of the people who say that most gossip is false don't actually read any gossip, so how would they know anything about the subject?

reply

because they are sound to unrealistic to be taken seriously. Someone take drags and have sex probably, all of them is ridiculous.

Yeah, you're right. Emma Watson IS secretly married to Kim Jong Un.

Why would you assume I don't read gossip?? It's not like gossip is hard to find or anything. I love reading gossip, just like I love "documentary" shows like Ancient Aliens and Celebrity Ghost Stories, with a similar ratio of fiction to fact. This kind of stuff is loads of fun to hear about. But you have to come into it with an ounce of logic and a critical mind, or else you're going to be taken for a complete fool more often than not.

Some gossip is true. But when stories follow certain traditional patterns and lack any kind of corroborating evidence we can pretty safely assume it's *beep* One of the most common examples is: take something innocent and pretend it's as perverse as possible. This is the same "story" you, as a self-described gossip expert, must have seen a million times. Most of these stories are obviously fake and exist only because it's A) very salacious to hear about and B) really really easy to invent. Hey did you hear about the orgies on the Power Rangers set? Oh yeah it happens all the time. There are gossip stories that are more, and less likely to be real. This particular story is much, much further down the 'less likely' side.

reply

How many things are really innocent though? I've seen a lot of "innocent" types crumble right before our eyes. The actress Kirsten Dunst went to rehab a few years ago, everyone had thought she was so nice and clean. Disney encouraged the Jonas Brothers with their purity ring gimmick but do you seriously think that none of the Jonas Brothers were having sex back then? I mean we know now that Miley Cyrus was smoking pot in the last few seasons of Hannah Montana. And we can see how she's turned out in just the last year with those raunchy concert performances.

Give me an example of a celebrity who was wrongly rumored to be not innocent who truly was? I don't have a problem with dealing with that side of the argument. The ones who are innocent usually don't get any press such as Debby Ryan who I've never heard a single rumor about...not one...

reply

Not everybody's innocent, that's true. But when a rumor comes out making a blanket statement that everyone on a particular kids show is having a wild sex & drugs party every day, that's much too far-fetched to be true. Add to that the fact that the article includes no identifying factors or details and there's zero chance it's true. If a rumor came out that identified one specific actor and had some detail to it, that'd be much more reliable.

And I wouldn't say there are NO rumors about Debby. There aren't a whole lot of rumors about her but anybody who is innocent, whether legitimately or only for show, is going to get at least some rumors thrown at them. I googled "Debby Ryan Sex Rumor" and got a lot of hits about a potential sex tape and rumored activities with Dylan Sprouse.

Okay, I will admit the rampant drugs and sex for the "whole cast" is a bit over the top, I can't see Victoria Justice being like that. There was a photo of Victoria grabbing Avan's groin area that ended up being posted on a Victoria Justice fan page and it took a while before people noticed what she was touching, she was tugging right on "it" if you know what I mean. However, even if Victoria and Avan had sex once or for a few months I can't see Victoria being promiscuous on the set with many different guys. On the other hand, I don't know a lot about the guys who played Robbie and Andre, we only know their on screen characters, they might have been major players in real life and even though Robbie was a dorky character that doesn't stop the girl extras from throwing themselves at the actor because he's got high status from being one of the stars of the show. And if you want to research this at all and you've got the DVDs to the show, study the episodes, how many background extras are there in any given episode? And if the actors who played Robbie and Andre were over 18 at the time were the extras underaged girls? Because the one clue suggested that there were complaints from the parents about underage sex with cast members and 95 percent of the time this means complaints from the parents over their underage daughter getting banged by one of the adult male stars. Rarely will you see parents of an underage boy complain that their son was nailed by an adult actress like Daniella Monet (Trina)

And when you say the Blind Item doesn't give any exact names, they can't, the gossip industry has changed in the last 10 years, they have to protect themselves more now from lawsuits. Look what happened recently when Perez Hilton did post a story about his friend seeing Ariana Grande snorting cocaine at a party. Grande's legal team immediately demanded removal of the story and have threatened a lawsuit. This is the reason why the Blind Items can't give exact names although sometimes if you follow it long enough they will invent nicknames for stars and this is the legal way they sneak by and out the celebrities for their behavior and don't get in trouble for doing so.

This gossip story does offer an important detail: the spinoff show with an actor who came from the original show...that should narrow it down.

There are a few Disney shows that I've seen but I don't know a lot about. For example, Good Luck Charlie, are any of those kids moving on to a spinoff?

But more importantly, gossip is part of the fan experience, I have an older sister who grew up in the 1980's. People in that generation before the internet would have KILLED to be exposed to wild rumors about their favorite TV shows. I find it kind of sad to see posters who are so serious and defensive when it comes to what is meant to be something enjoyable for the fan.

Wrote this in the icarly forum:
Summary:

Show at peak. Rules out any 1 season show and perhaps any 2 season show.
Viewership high.
Cast wanted to keep going.
Network cancelled show.
Drugs, Sex between an underage cast.
Not sure exactly what the 'two cast member' thing means...
Cast around 18, but included both sides.
One cast member given 'close to her own show.'
Something about that cast member paired up with church.

Note it doesn't say which network.

I'd suggest the biggest clues would be to look at shows cancelled after 2 or more series (but probably not more than 5) and then see who got their own show or something like a co-star role on that next show.

It wouldn't be iCarly. Too small a cast, show ended well below peak, I don't think any of the cast would fit the 'sex & drugs' profile anyway.

Victorious would fit:
*Show at peak? Sure. Didn't need to get cancelled so soon.
*Cast wanted to keep going. Not totally sure, but no-one really ever came out saying they wanted to end the show.
* Network cancelled Victorious.
* Drugs & Sex.. the show had a huge cast, I could see the entire cast banging the *beep* out of each other, they were all massively hot, and seemingly quite liberal.
* Cast members under and over 18, yeah, I think that'd be right.
* Ariana would count as getting 'close' to her own show. Sam & Cat
* Ariana has a clear public 'innocent girl' persona, I'm sure she could fool the producers.
* Were any of the Victorious cast openly religious?

Come out with your hands up, we have you partially surrounded!

Why not?

Drugs.. probably not (but no-one ever really knows unless something goes wrong, especially if someone sticks to softer drugs like weed and pills, not doing loads of coke or heroin), but she's super hot and she was dating some guy who was like 29 years old. There's no way a 29 year old isn't dating a teenager unless she's putting out.

Matt Bennett was 19, Avan was 18 & Leon Thomas was 17 when the show started in 2010. Liz, Ariana & Victoria were all around 17.

many background extras

There were loads of extras on Victorious.

I can definitely respect that.

I enjoy gossip. It's just the blind item aspect that gets my goard. But that's just me.

Lol at Pot being what made Miley wild. Nothing made Miley wild, she was never miss sweet and pure Hannah Montana, it was all a act. Just like this Miley is a act. Everything Miley has done is a calculated decision.

Hannah Montana was a act to get the Disney market and Molly Miley is a attempt to get rid of those younger fans and gain older fans.

Not all gossip is fake, but this gossip is obviously fake. Fits the typical pattern of "take anything that looks innocent and say everybody's doing drugs and having sex all the time." Really not thinly veiled at all, way too transparent.

I'd love it if this was true though. Unfortunately even if it were true, it can't be about iCarly or Victorious. I don't recall Jennette or Ariana being known for quoting bible verses or going to church multiple times per week.

She had producers fooled into thinking she was an innocent cast member and they paired her up with someone who spouted bible verses and producers thought went to church multiple times each week.

The only thing this might describe is Nathan Kress if he sprouted a vagina, got a new Nick show, and suddenly had a dark side.

Remember that the more salacious it sounds, the less likely it is to be true. If we believe such flimsy gossip, then all the stars on Nick and Disney got their roles by having sex with all the producers and their executive friends.

Jennette was raised Mormon and there has been gossip that she is no longer practicing. I remember hearing rumors that in the early days of iCarly, she presented herself as a good girl type.

reply

There hasn't been Gossip, she said point blank on the podcast she hasn't been a practicing Mormon for atleast 10 years, made it seem like she doesn't have a religion at the moment.

Wouldn't that fit Amanda bynes?

Did Amanda Bynes have a show that still had high ratings when it went off the air?
