Oh heck, you're right, all this time I've been punishing the wrong network. Well, except I don't feel like I missed anything anyway.

It's funny, there was a time when I made the case that Public Television had run its course, thanks to cable. It used to be the place (in fact, the only place) to go for history, science, cooking, crafts, travel, etc. Eventually there were channels dedicated to all of those, that used to offer up great features that rivaled anything PBS did (which was mostly all from Canada or the UK anyway).

Now, I take that all back. It's like that chart that shows the "evolution" of the History channel:
1995 - 2001: History
2002 - 2006: Hitler
2007 - present: Hurrrrrr
