Why did Bull get so ticked that he had to beat the crapp out of the other dude? A beating like that would have req'd a Dr or coroner.

On the surface was that the bloke stole Bull's wave, after he'd called it, on what he considered the spot he'd discovered. Disrespect, basically. But yes, the beating was disproportionate and pointed to Bull being a nutjob.
...then whoa, differences...
One of the guys had told Bull that someone on the island remembered him. Maybe he had a history with that guy. Otherwise odd to have included that bit of dialogue; is any ever put in for no reason, really?
