Why all the hate?

I get that this movie has a lot of plot holes: parking far away, lack of working/available cell phones, not escaping when they had the chance, etc. But not only did they try to address those (e.g. punishing his friend, battery dying/leaving it in car, afraid he might have weapon on him), even if those weren't good enough conveniences for the plot, at least it's not like the movie is complete *beep* as most people are making it out to be. Yes, those plot holes could ruin the movie for many, but a lot of you are just flat out bashing it. I thought it was a pretty entertaining and suspenseful movie and I could feel the isolation and fear that the characters were supposed to feel. Anyways, I couldn't give less of a *beep* if any of you don't agree or want to convince me that I should hate it, I just wanted to show that not everyone does.

No kidding. These boards are full of self-righteous trolls and "internet intellectuals". Watch a movie to be entertained, end of story. This wasn't Shakespeare, but it was worth a watch. It's an interesting premise.

One thing we ALL should agree on, if nothing else: Peace.:)>-

So if people don't like something you think is good, then they're "Self-righteous trolls" ? Sounds like it's the pot calling the kettle black.

This was no masterpiece with lazy minor dialogue to fill in the many logical holes within the film.

I didn't mind the film since so many horrors require a suspension of belief and the ability to look past stupidity. This movie was ok, and I can understand why so many people would dislike it.

The killer plans for that long and his plans would be ruined if someone has a cell phone? The blonde guy would never be convicted because his bank account would show him withdrawing $1000, which was in an envelope with the earrings and watch.

The cell phone thing and parking far away explanations were lazy. Give the killer a transmitter that disallows cell phone signals. That's an easier more plausible option rather than "I forgot".

And parking that far away to teach his friend a lesson is a stupid reason. Especially since he wants to get busy with the girl, so he would really want to get his friend in and out as quickly as possible.

Anyways. I dislike "self-righteous trolls" who think that people on a message board can't disagree with their apparently superior opinion. Especially on a film like ATM.

IF you don't like it don't Watch it or at least let The people who likes it, like it. I thought this movie was good and straight simple. The top meaning wasnt for anyone personal it was just an public opinion.
(Sorry for bad english/ The swede)

reply

No one is telling you not to like it. They are expressing their views on a message board, which they have the right to do. Also, since most people come on here after watching a film, they can't really go back in time and not watch.

reply

That's one sided. You're emphasizing you're opinion to praise and only people who agree with you matter essentially

reply

Can't edit, but I do see where you're coming from. Feels like other people go out of they're way to ruin your fun. Just dangerously close to hypocrisy

reply

And your English is better than most Americans

reply

Well, I thought this flick was terrible in a fun way. That's why I watched it, and came on here to 'bash' it. It's fun picking apart a film that makes no sense, with characters and plotholes that defy reality.

reply

This movie was just silly. Yes, we watch movies to be entertained but when there are so many cases of plot holes & what-ifs the viewer begins to get irritated.

You're parking 1/4 mile away from the ATM at night? In the middle of nowhere? Why? To tempt someone to mug you coming out? Especially with a hot chick with you!

If it were me & another guy I'd simply take the guy on (unless he had a gun). Let the girl run for help.

And if I see another movie where no one's cell phone works again I'll scream! Please! There are that many dead spots in the city! And not everyone walks around with a dead battery. Gimme a break. You can't expect people to just totally suspense all logic in a movie like this.

reply

Everything that happened in that movie is plausible and could happen. I don't understand the hate for the movie but maybe it is because some of these people just don't get the ending yet. LOLOLOL Some people just don't have the intelligence to figure some movies out and for each of us heck sometimes it takes long if we do figure it out. The Sixth Sense ... and another movie rrr that I can't think of were like that for some.

Yes in this technological age of ours, 3 20 somethings would all not have a cell phone conveniently. Would park so far away from the ATM (lazily written dialogue later explains this is to teach his friend a lesson which also makes no sense) and instead of trying to come up with a plan (3 vs 1 guy with no gun) they decide to stay inside and fight with one another repeatedly.

Also, a guy with the same Parka they all seem to own, would walk to this weird ATM that is in the middle of a deserted parking lot, passing by the 2 bodies lying on the floor and be murdered by 2 preppy kids. If these 2 preppy guys can see that they CAN fight and kill someone, why wouldn't they take that opportunity to fight the actual killer?

Anywawys, the film could have had potential, but there are so much lazy writing to explain plot holes and the ending is so ridiculous. Because someone who's killed all these people would suddenly withdrawl $1000 from his own account and take the girls earrings and the guys watch and put it in his own trunk.

Also a security guard seeing 3 people yelling from inside the ATM wouldn't drive right up to the door and ask from the security of his car "what's wrong?" but instead park far away and go "huh? speak up can't hear ya" as he gets murdered.

And why would this "sophisticated" killer do all this planning and not bring a device with him to shut down cell phones from making calls? I mean, really if one of them had a phone and called the police his whole operation would be over.

Like I said, the film could have been decent, the premise is fine but there is too much stupidity within the film.

i agree with the OP and I'll quote Foure as he was on the ball

I dont mostly watch a movie "only" to be entertained. I like heavy emotional dramas which drain me out or psychological thrillers which make me think, but that does not mean that I'm an Intellectual which would make me trash a solid entertainer like this one

Most of the "better" movies are based on plots which are more unbelievable than this plot, but we dont see people trashing the plots. For Example, I thought Inception is amongst the best movies I have seen, ( and we cannot compare ATM to Inception ) but the plot in Inception is more fantastic and improbable than this one, yet very few people question the plot.

All said and done, this movie was very good entertainment

Darkness lies an inch ahead

Actually I hate the movie cause it is a poorly acted, poorly shot, and overall boring piece of crap. It is that simple

reply

By its own nature, 90% of the movie takes place in an ATM - how "well shot" can it be?

reply

I don't think those are plot holes because, as you said, they did address each of them. Convenient stretches, yes, but not plot holes. One guy's battery died*, the woman left her phone in the car because this should only take a minute, and Jerk Friend drunkenly tossed the cell before the whole thing started and Blonde Guy's phone was on the floorboard. The Jerk Friend I actually assumed was dead broke. No phone, no ride, won't take a cab even though he was so gung-ho about his friend asking the girl out, card "doesn't work," hitting up a friend for his food. I don't even think his battery was dead, I think his phone had been shut off or he didn't have one.

I also thought it was no masterpiece, but was pretty entertaining.

reply

Suspenseful? Oh hell no, far from it...that woulda been something positive about this terrible movie. But hey, if you enjoyed it, i'm glad. I regret watching it too.

Bad acting, very ridiculous scenes making it completely unbelieveable. Because of the bad acting, the very ridiculous things they said i just couldn't care for these characters at all. Suspense? Where exactly? Boring as hell and also predictable as hell.
