A remake of, Volcano (2011)?

Great movie. Great depth. However, I was struck by how directly similar this is to the Icelandic movie that also debuted at Cannes, but the year prior. There seems to me even a slight nod to this when the daughter returns from her Nordic trip.

Obviously I've not read through all the threads. Were these both based on the same book or something?

Had “Hollywood” done the remake, everyone would be clamoring bloody murder at the injustice of it all.

It's not too obscure either. One of the best Icelandic films ever made, I think. Top-3 for me anyway.

This was being filmed prior to the 2011 Cannes film festival so it is not a re-make of the film you mention.

This link (go to the bottom of the page) displays the filming dates: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1602620/business

Its also based on an original screenplay by the director.

Do you have a link to the film from Iceland that you can post?

Thank you Auntie Peg for the date info. Check this one out when you have a chance.

- Eldfjall (2011)

(Unfortunately, due to the nature of the conversation, both movies are slightly *spoiled*. :/ Sorry world. This online movie board stuff is a tough racket.)

Volcano certainly sounds interesting and I would like to see it.

Actually, I film I think did help to inspire Michael Haneke is a little known Japanese film called A Promise http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0169085/combined

I saw A Promise back in the 1980's and I do recall reading that director Michael Haneke had seen it but I have also read that the death of an aunt of Michael Haneke helped influence Amour.

Amour, Volcano & A Promise are deal with the same issues that are universal all over the world.
