What happened to Georges?

I missed the first 10 minutes of the movie so I would like to ask what happened to Georges after it was revealed what he had done? What happened after the police discovered the truth at the sealed apartment? Thank you.

It seems that he was "missing" when the police entered the home. IMHO he took his own life and was also lying deceased in the apartment. Why do I think that? His dream. He saw his wife walking through the door, the door to the next world. And he joined her.
I think when he woke from the dream, he found a way to take his own life. Thus the daughter entered an empty apartment.
Just a lay person's (somewhat trite) interpretation.
BTW I thought the movie was magnificent, the acting as superb as acting can be. Indeed, there needs to be another word than mere "acting" for performances of that type.

For what it's worth, I interpreted that last scene with Georges differently. When he hears his wife doing the dishes and putting the plates away, it's more like the echo of the sounds in his life are still present despite the source of the sounds now being gone. Similarly, when he responds to his wife's prompts to put his shoes on and put a coat on, it's the echo of the prompts he's always benefited from still reverberating. When he leaves, he's leaving the apartment for the final time, to go where is up for interpretation. Into hiding presumably.

Very interesting analysis, Kazak23. But I have to believe it would be HIGHLY problematic for him to go into hiding. I have to believe that he would have recognized that as well. Thanks for your contribution.

Yet, Georges is nowhere to be found when the emergency responders bust open the front door. Had he gone with suicide, I would expect to find his own body lying beside his wife's. On the other hand, we do see Georges dream in an earlier sequence, so your interpretation is not without precedent. Ultimately, it's left open-ended for the imagination of the viewer to fill in the voids. Cheers.

Thank you.
It is a marvelous, deeply moving film with acting one does not see very often. Simply extraordinary.

*SPOILER ALERT* I thought that Georges was writing his suicide note at the kitchen table. When he is lying down in the spare room and hears noises from the kitchen, I thought that when he arose he was then joining his wife. I did rewind the ending to watch it again, as I was uncertain, as well. When the police arrive at the beginning, do they show the spare room empty, or not at all? If Georges taped up the doorway, and opened the windows so the smell would not be noticed, why bother since he was going to commit suicide anyway? When the daughter returns to the apartment dressed in all black, I presume she is returning from the mother and father's funeral. I thought I would not be able to watch this film in its entirety, but, surprisingly, I did.
