Absolutely awful poster

It really annoys me when a film, which from the trailer looks mildly entertaining and watch-able, hires some marketing agency that comes up with one of these terrible posters for the film. Banal, vapid and unoriginal, how do such apparently savvy film makers accept this rubbish? Pale indefinite background suggestive of scene, two main characters making random facial expressions looking in arbitrary directions as if in conversation, in an attempt to suggest they are mid way through witty or interesting conversation. This just comes across as sloppy, like they couldn't be bothered with a dedicated photo shoot for marketing so just got an ad-agency intern to do a random screen capture and copy and paste their cut out heads on to a big sheet of paper. It gives the film no identity, making it easily forgettable (or it would have been had it not annoyed/disappointed me so much).

It's almost as if no one actually cares if anyone sees this film after they went to all the trouble of making it.

I'm not sure if i could agree more.

Nope...I couldn't agree more.

Wow, I REALLY don't think true film lovers judge movies by their covers.

Are you aware of how many films are made and marketed each year? Are you aware of what small fraction are picked up by cinema chains or make it into rental shops? Then, what tiny fraction of that actually get seen by anyone at all bar the blockbusters these days? A film can rise and fall by the success of its marketing. The trailer was so-so, and if I walked past my local movie theatre and saw that poster I would not consider even attempting to find out more about that film, let alone make an effort or outlay the expense to actually see it. I think you missed my point entirely.

Ir's about the movie, not the marketing. Watch the movie or be silent.

Hold on here folks, the internet police have arrived.

Damn straight, Wohhh

That is the biggest pile of crap I've seen on IMDb in a short time.

reply

I agree, the designer clearly did not see the film. It is a great film.

The poster is better than the film.

All this nonsense about the poster. The poster is not important, it doesn't tell you how good the film is. Just watch the movie. Jesus Christ on a bike!

Chill out, it's just a light hearted post to liven up a discussions on a film that stinks so much it almost makes me want to blaspheme as well.

It's been awhile since you posted. I understand your point, but I'm not sure that it really matters. I have seen some good movies and some horrible movies and I have never judged any of them based on the poster. I never watch trailers because I don't like them. I don't watch television so I never see commercials for movies either. I have never gone to a movie theatre without some idea of what I will see so never pay attention to any posters up at any given time. Granted, the posters clearly serve a function for some people, but it's probably not that big a deal either way.
