Without Adam Goldberg?

He was by far the best thing in "2 Days In Paris"... why is he not in this one?

reply

Because his character was insufferable? They both were, but I mean, really, those two characters had *no reason at all* to remain in any kind of relationship. I highly doubt that was Delpy's intentions making the Paris film, but thats what came across.

And seeing as there will be another Sunrise/Sunset film, it kind of begs the question why she's making another one of these "2 Days" films. Getting her and Chris Rock together to have a little mini-Woody Allen fest is good enough excuse though, I suppose.

reply

I'm going to have to agree with the fact that Goldberg's character was annoying and grated on my nerves and had this been a movie about those two still being in a relationship, it would have sucked.
That being said, I don't see any reason for this movie to be made regardless of whether it is Chris Rock replacing Goldberg or not. The first one just wasn't good enough, and the characters not worthy enough. It had none of the elements that made the Sunset/Sunrise movies so endearing. I mean, Ethan Hawke is a terrible actor, but between the writing and directing, even his poor delivery of almost every line could not ruin them.
Also, the parents were the best part of 2 Days in Paris, which is probably why they are returning.

'Begging the question' is a logical fallacy of circular reasoning. It does not mean what you (and so many other people) seem to think it means.

reply

oh god shut up who cares....

reply

The worst thing is not that Adam Goldberg is not in this movie. It is that Chris Rock is instead of him. ???!!!

I don't do too much talking these days

"He'll turn this into some crude black comedy."

"black comedy" meaning...? Rock is hardly known for making cynical comedies, which is the typical way the term is used, so I'm assuming you mean "African-American comedy" and that you're either a racist or merely ignorant with racist tendencies.

Did Rock's "black comedy" dilute the purity of films like 'Beverly Hills Ninja', 'Dogma', 'Lethal Weapon 4', 'Nurse Betty' 'A.I', 'Madagascar' and 'Grown Ups'?

Also, if you love Jesus Christ and are 100% proud of it, maybe you should follow his example and refrain from making harsh premature judgements of others that reek of ignorance and/or racism.

"And while I do love Jesus Christ, I am honest enough with myself and others to say that typical AFRICAN AMERICAN comedies/movies are AHORRIBLE! That is not racist, it is a statment of FACT!"

How is that a fact when it is clearly your opinion! And yes you are a racist. And if its an "african american movie" why watch?

reply

Yeah, I mean I trust Delpy but it's a real bummer to see Goldberg go. Rock could be alright but the rest of the cast looks pretty bleh too. Dylan Baker? Bleh :(

Chris Rock is funnier, more intelligent, and a better actor. He deserves it more. Stop being a hater.

Where did he go?

reply

I am also sad that he is not in this one but I'm not surprised that they are not still together. She was a liar with fidelity problems and once he knew that their whole relationship would be different.

reply

he will be missed, his character was so funny and an important part of the film, but I am sure miss Delpy can pull it off, she's an excellent comedian, now, Chris Rock??? YACK! I find him so annoying! :( is there any news in the status of this project?

WHOA careful there buddy, you'll be called a racist by the PC police up there.

To everyone complaining about Chris Rock, you should wait until you see the film. he is fantastic and really plays against type. Adam Goldberg is absent, yes, but the film is not lacking anything because of it. The picture is rich, vibrant, and alive. If it offers any consolation, Jack is mentioned a few times in the film.

Chris Rock...fantastic? Are you being serious?...the guy is incredibly irritating and just grates on you. He has been truly awful in whichever films I've had the misfortune to see him in. Despite some of the films he has been in being good (e.g. Dogma), his presence is the worst thing about them, so forgive me if I do find the statement of "Chris Rock being fantastic" in a film hard to believe. I really wanted to see this film, I liked the first one, but the fact that it has Chris Rock in it makes me think I should give it a miss.

Adam Goldberg is beyond irritating to me. He always plays the same character. At first i liked him and thought he was funny, but after seeing him do the same uptight, hipster thing half a dozen times I am tired of him.

Reading this board and the chris rock one is really an eye opener for me - so obvious that a lot of the hate for him is about race, even though people don't want to admit that.

He was good in this movie and played against type.

I finally broke down and watched the movie even though I disliked 2 Days in Paris because I like Julie Delpy. Even though I wasn't one of those complaining about Rock, I was skeptical he could do anything to help. I have to agree with ddmaingot, Chris Rock was really good and, for me, was exactly what was needed. His character, and the way he portrayed it is what made this movie much more enjoyable than the first on for me. That, and Vincent Gallo, strangely enough. I would have said before this film and now again after it that I could live without ever seeing him again, but it worked great for this.

reply

I agree. I wouldn't want to be the one dating him, but he was HILARIOUS in that movie. Hopefully he makes a cameo or something.

reply

I didn't think Rock would cut it but he didn't do too bad, plus i didn't really like the guy from the last movie.

Assume nothing; Question everything

2 days in Paris is a good movie, not just because of Adam Goldberg, but also because of him,and i think his character would bring something else to this second movie, the first is good, this one,is just, ok.
