Absolutely Delightful

i saw this film on Saturday, and it was excellent. It is definitely a sequel, but the film sort of exists on its own. I would imagine that it will be edited somewhat, as it feels a little long. I loved seeing the continuation of Marion, she has definitely grown up and matured a bit, but she's still a delightful mess of a person. Chris Rock is amazing in the film.

That is, so good to hear!

Is it as full with stupid clichés about American as 2DIP was about French ?

reply

It's worse. Delpy whining, nervous and complaining the whole film characterizing the French as smelly stupid peasants. She has absolutely no talent as a director.

couldn't agree more.

Just seen the film today and I enjoyed myself. I haven't seen the first one so it definitely exists on its own because I didn't feel I was missing any part of the story. However, it did make me want to watch the first film. It was very much a fairytale and rather fluffy with the French being portrayed as lovable stereotypes, but I liked it anyway. The film made me laugh quite a lot and New York looked very beautiful. I particularly enjoyed the appearance of Vincent Gallo as himself. Chris Rock was very good, too.

I really enjoyed it and haven't seen the first film ... yet. I didn't feel I needed 2DiP to follow this one, but I do want to catch it now. It was very Woody Allen (as others have said) and very something else -- which I'll call Julie Delpy. She really put her own spin on the rom com, family comedy (fam com?), social commentary film. And she goes for the jugular with her comedy -- nothing is off limits and hilariously so. To me she and her work both come off as smart, insightful, funny, honest, charmingly neurotic and unafraid to show it all. It's not all neat and tidy ... and I like the mess.

I saw this first before seeing the Paris movie. I just finished watching the Paris movie on netflix and it was funnier than the NY movie. But both movies are extremely funny. I just noticed that the NY movie is ondemand so I need to watch it again. I wish the boyfriends were switched because Chris Rock would have been in more hilarous than Goldberg trying to deal with all of Marion's goings on in Paris. But Goldberg was good in the Paris movie. If you haven't seen the Paris movie, definitely check it out. One line in it had me laughing for hours.

It's the kind of movie that hopes people will describe it as "delightful".

I enjoyed the hell out of this movie, even though its obviously Woody Allen lite. In fact, I enjoyed it more than other "quirky" romcoms like Silver Lining's Playbook...I feel like that movie's happy ending came out of nowhere. I feel like this movie "earned" it more somehow.
