Interracial/Internati onal

I'm not sure what a "typical" Chris rock role is, mostly because I'm not familiar with his body of work outside of his standup. He is not my favorite standup comedian but he is usually always good for a laugh.

I thought the interracial and the international aspects of the film lent an interesting and humorous complexity to the overall story and to the family.

Chris rock does look confused for most of the film but overall I think he worked for the role. I think it would have been easy for him to steal the spotlight and he kind of maintains a lower profile in this film. Julie Deply is not only beautiful but a really thoughtful and intelligent actress and writer and I think that comes across in this piece. Both she and Mingus sorta belong to that New York intellectual artist/writer scene and that's really the only thing that is Woody Allen about this. But I didn't feel it was a take on Woody Allen's work at all but let's be honest who hasn't Woody Allen influenced?

This was enjoyable a real fun watch.
