An easy 10/10

What an inspiring, well made, well acted film. Of the 1300+ films I've scored on IMDB, only 21 have had such an effect. Sadly this was poorly marketed as an all out action movie but is so much deeper. Highly recommended.

Absolutely agree, this film stuck with me for days after. 8/10

You must have low standards if this is a 10

Fantastic contribution to the subject. Your taste in movies differs from others, a shocking revelation indeed.

I think this has elements of an action movie to please some people who were expecting a typical Jason Statham like action movie, but it was also very uniquely directed, which people definitely weren't expecting. I consider it an action art film, which is definitely a rare thing.

I love this movie and gave it a 9, though I am also a sucker for winter survival movies that take themselves seriously, so it's very hard for me to be objective about this movie. The Revenant, a much better movie, is one that I also loved, but I accept I cannot be truly objective about it due to how much I love its setting and style.

I did have a few problems with The Grey though. I'm willing to accept the wolves as an allegory and can also accept that the characters make some dumb decisions throughout, but I would have liked this movie even more if two of the death scenes were handled differently. The early scene in which Ottway calms the dying man in the plane wreckage is a great scene, but it would have been much more powerful if it had been given to someone we knew or had a connection with in some way. The death scene toward the end in which the man who fell from the cliff briefly saw a vision of his daughter was a beautiful scene, which was immediately cheapened by the fake looking wolves immediately ripping him to shreds in the next shot. On that note, the wolves were generally not convincing either, especially when shown in full view.

Otherwise I love this movie.

The marketing for this movie was horrible. The previews made it seem like Liam with his improvised weapons on his hands was just one example of crazy wolf fighting action scenes that would be in the movie. When I saw it with a bunch of friends we were so disappointed when it cut to credits because we had been waiting for that scene the whole movie.

Looking back, I am much happier with what we got than what I was expecting.
