People are missing the point.

Man this is probably the worst board I've ever seen, everybody crying about how "unrealistic" some of the survival concepts are (like people are experts at surviving the Alaskan wilderness with no supplies and running from wolves), yet the movie isn't going for realism it's going for message. It was very clear by the undertones of the movie. The meaning of survival, human boundaries, how far you can go, what to live for, what to die for, I mean Jesus, people will really complain about anything they don't clearly understand.

Man i cant understand how anybody cant love this movie. No its not perfect but it is absolutely an awesome movie. One of my favorites hands down. It touches me on a very emotional level.

I'm sorry, but as someone who has studied wolves extensivly, their behavior, pack dynamics, biology, history, etc., the wolf behavior in this movie is too absurd for me to get past, regardless of how well it was made. It also perpetuates all the negative cliche stereotypes that some of us that study them and have worked closely with packs have been trying to dispel. Wolves do NOT behave the way they do in this movie. Period. It was to the point where I was laughing at the absurdity half way in and could no longer take the movie seriously. Maybe other people don't have knowledge of wolves in the wild, but I sure as hell do, and this movie Was too ridiculous to even suspend reality for.

I don't see why only a person who doesn't study wolves will be able to suspend his disbelief. Many people are able to suspend disbelief for things we know don't work the same way in reality.

There are physicists who like Star Trek, historians who like Gladiator, geneticists who like The Fly and cops who like Lethal Weapon.

If you don't like the film, that's your business, but saying that the only people who'd enjoy it are those who are ignorant of wolf behavior makes you look extremely pretentious. Most people don't need a movie to be realistic to find it enjoyable.

This is such a common thing on the internet isn't it? People will be able to watch all sorts of unrealistic shows and films, but heaven forbid a movie doesn't portray their pet subject accurately.

"Oh, I studied sword-fighting. I can't take Game of Thrones seriously because it's so unrealistic there. Now excuse me while I go watch Transformers."

@psydechar I couldn't agree with you more. This movie, to me, is about facing death. The wolves are just a vehicle to take you to the deeper thoughts and feelings in Ottaway's mind. I thought it was the most powerful ending I've ever seen in a film. Not only did his dad's poem finally make sense but he was ready to die on his feet, swinging...

When will writers, directors, Hollywood and most of the United States get a grip and start writing something of true meaning, not made up fictional bullshit. This is a terrible film, no words can defend it.
