Explain The Ring

The detective held up his hand and showed the twin that he had on the same ring. Afterwards he tells the kid to open his eyes. I think I missed something. Why was it pointed out to the audience the detective had the same ring on?

reply

He's not showing him his ring which is in fact different from the one that was given to him by his girlfriend, he is showing him the charcoal/dirt/dust from the walls after rubbing it because the house was basically dilapidated but Jonah refused to see the truth.

Thanks! I wondered what the black in his hands was the first time he visited the parents house. Couldn't make sense of it.

that's true though, the whole ring thing was stupid though, b/c Eve gives Jonah the ring so she can "tell them apart." However, earlier in the movie, she already says that she can tell them apart b/c Jonah has a lil scar by his eye, etc. Yet apparently, when Seth goes and sleeps with her, she mistakes him just because he snuck on the ring?

Yeah you can mistake twins, even when they are dissmiliar. I remember two sets of twins from childhood and they all had the same dissimiarities as these two - i.e. personality (one more outgoing than the other) and one looking more "stern" and older. One of the brothers looked older than the other to me in this movie.

I remember these twin brothers from elementary schools. All the girls went crazy over these two - one was distinctly "nicer" or softer (and had a softer looking face) and the other was harder (and meaner) and had a meaner face. I spent an entire afternoon flirting with the wrong one (and confused by why he seemed so different from the day before) even though I could tell them apart otherwise. I expected to be talking to the other brother and so I didn't see the differences.

A long story to say that when you expect something (and they look so similiar) it's easy to mistake them for the other under the right circumstances.
