The ending

I love open endings. When Nikolaj standing on the balcony smiling. What does it mean.?
I think he is finished with punk. I think he manage to love his father for what he is and what he is not.
I think he will manage. What do you think?

I saw this at a festival just last week and the actor who plays Nikolaj did a Q&A after. I asked about the ending, and interstingly -- he actually said this wasn't the ending that was written and planned!

There was supposed to be one more scene, where Nickolaj and his father come together (presumably 'round the dinner table back at home) and talk out/reconcile their differences. However the production ran out of money, so the original ending was never shot and it had to finish with the balony instead.

I definitely felt like something in the ending we see was a little off...it seemed rather too light/happy, given all that had happened. It would have been nice to end on some more glib-humour father/son dialogue, imo.
