My review of Old 37
Let me just start by saying I had high hopes for this movie. I had been keeping up with it for what seemed like forever, and waited for it to be released just like everybody else. Well, the movie I had hoped for is not the the movie I got. It's a very innocent horror film. Tons of exposition for the teenagers who become victims, yet they're all very innocent. There's hardly any bad language, a forty minute build up for a breast augmentation that we don't even see, and most of the kills happen off screen. The brothers Darryl and Jon Roy, played by Bill Moseley and Kane Hodder do well in what time they're on screen, which sadly isn't much. It feels like they're just sprinkled here and there until the third act, which even then isn't but about twenty minutes. Bill Moselely does well with little lines he does have, and Kane doesn't have any at all, because he's the "big retard". His reason for wearing a mask is brought on from an injury his brother inflicted on him as a kid, which again, is very innocent. I was expecting in-your-face blood and gore, and a straight up ambulance ride from hell. It had so much potential, and Kane and Bill really could've made this work, but we pretty much got a Lifetime movie with serial killers in it at the end. I don't hate it, I've definitely seen worse, and get that this was the first time the writer/producer and director did a film, but for the time it took to make it, it could've been so much more.
