Red or Black - find out next year

Son of an ugly biatch! Seriously? I have to wait a year to find out if it was Red or Black???? And to find out that Stanton probably does die for like 1 minute and they revive him. Seriously! They are not going seperate ways or the show ends.

considering the cast turnover between S3 and S4, I'd be surprised if we even get a season 5

Yeah that seriously irritated me. I mean, I get that the point of a cliffhanger like that is meant to ensure that people come back the next season... but considering we have no idea if there's going to be a next season it's a really crappy note to end on if the show isn't renewed.

There ought to be a rule that cliffhanger endings are only allowed on season finale's for shows that have already announced a definite next season. It's like with V (2009), so thoroughly mishandled and then a major cliffhanger... and then gone, not even a two-hour t.v. movie to finish the story or anything. Some fans were so peeved by it that they no longer watch ABC shows (not that ABC cares) at all.

That would be great, wouldn't it? Unfortunately, unless the show is a given runaway hit, networks aren't likely to announce if a new season is happening until they see how well (or not well, depending) the current season does in the ratings. By that time, the season is more than likely already written, and in some cases, completely filmed. It sucks for the viewers, but I bet it sucks even more for the cast and crew involved when they find out their show isn't returning.

I really hope TNT gives us at least one more season of F&B, even if it's a shortened order of episodes.

Shortened order? 10 episodes isn't short enough?

reply

That's their standard season order for most of their original shows, including this one. While it's short compared to broadcast network show season lengths, I don't really consider it shortened since that's the number they've had since the beginning.

They could easily decide to cut that in half and do only 5. I don't know of any examples with TNT shows, but Treme on HBO had 4 seasons of 10 episodes, and for their final one, the network only gave them 5 episodes to wrap everything up. And that was because it was a David Simon show.

Franklin & Bash might not get the same courtesy, and we won't get any more episodes at all. I'd rather have a final season of any number of episodes if they don't renew it for the typical 10 episodes.

That was my point though, if a series is rocky (and sadly, F&B was definitely that given how it was being handled), they shouldn't be allowed to end on cliffhangers. It's one thing for a series like Big Bang Theory or Grey's Anatomy to end on a cliffhanger - unless something truly unexpected happens, they're coming back, so a cliffhanger just makes their fans eager for it to happen ASAP. But shows like F&B, honestly it's just rude to the fans (and yes, the cast and crew as well), it's not going to increase viewership for the current (or potential next) season... it's just going to irk people when it's abruptly cancelled. As F&B was. We have to kind of assume Infeld died and the team separated and don't even get to see the surely elaborate and strange funeral nor the (undoubtedly sad) parting of friends, nor even Franklin and Swatello coming together in a more open actual relationship. So many things that could have finished off the series in a last season, but instead, poof. :(

I think what killed the show was the cast changes from seasons 3 and 4. You added Locklear, which was a disaster and later got rid of two side characters that helped the show.
