Anywhere near Gone Baby Gone or Mystic River?

That was my hope, but the reviews make me doubt even bothering with this one... Prove me wrong?

It ISN'T as good as Mystic River or (especially) Gone Baby Gone, but it's genuinely just a notch down those two. Those two are, for me at least, classics of the genre. This movie is just genuinely good. It's a fantastic slow burn that pays off really really well in the end. If you're on the fence about watching it, I would say, go ahead, it absolutely deserves to be watched.

its a question of artistic taste

by now you've probably seen it, but... i think the drop is better than either of those.

less sensational, less formulaic, more real, subtle, powerful.

plus, i hate eastwood movies in general, so factor that in.

movies are so subjective. I think the post b4 this one says it was better than both & explains why.

I agree. Best movie I've seen this year. RIP - James Gandolfini. And Tom Hardy belongs on the A list for actors. The casting for this movie was excellent. The guy who played Eric Deeds nailed his character.

Actually - every character was played well.

If you like any of Lehane's work you will for sure like this one.

I think all 3 are great movies. My only question is why did they change the setting of the story from Boston as it was in the book (and most of Lehane's books), to Brooklyn for the movie? Not that it detracted from the movie, just curious.
