Abduction is a good action movie

A friend recommended that I watch this movie even knowing that I am an avid Twilight hater. I have to admit that it kept me entertained and anxious to see how it would end. Will it win any Oscars...no but it will entertain you as it is supposed to.

reply

Really? I knew exactly how it was going to end...maybe because I've seen a hundred movies like this, and they all follow the same general path.

reply

I was disappointed with it and i wasn't expecting much. Taylor Lautner is just bland and the story while interesting at first, just got way too stupid.

I did enjoy Lilly Collins, but that is because Lilly Collins is super sexy

reply

Hmm I wasn't impressed by Lilly, her unibrow was distracting. Now the woman who played his mom was hot...

"There can be only one"

reply

maria bello , very sexy, but she has been in sexier roles.

She is an abs. Dish in History of Violence.

reply

I was actually talking about the woman who played his real mother. Maria Bello looked old in this movie.

Mario Bello has played sexy roles. Check out "The Cooler", "History of Violence" or "Payback". All decent films worth watching at least once.

As for this movie, it started out pretty good, but once they got on the train it was all downhill from there. Even though Nathan's father has a fairly small part, they didn't even credit the actor "Dermot Mulroney" for the voice and partial face. I was trying to figure out who it was. I kind of thought it was Dermot, but I couldn't remember his name. I just kept thinking "My Best Friends Wedding".

Anyway, the 2nd half of the movie was so unrealistic. Taylor's fighting chops were worth then when he did "Lava Girl & Shark Boy". The fight choreograph was pretty bad in the 2nd half. His battle with his Dad was decent. I was hoping for a lot more of that, but it never happened. Oh well. Average action film.

IMO, I think the problem with movie-goer's these days is that they expect way too much(looking for Oscar-nuggets) then what the movie was "actually" intended for; which is to entertain. I wasn't expecting much (I never really do when I watch admittingly-brainless Action, popcorn flicks) and I throughly enjoyed every minute of it by its pace and build up of the story.

Definitely, better than what your use to watching on the telly thats for sure. ;)

My sentiments exactly

Going to a movie and not expecting much is EXACTLY the reason why there's so many crappy movies out there.

Sorry, but I DEMAND intelligent, well made and well acted movies. And every once in a while, I see one.

This movie was not it.

The scripting & production values were more in line with an Afterschool Special.

reply

Incorrect. CGI is the reason why there are so many "crappy" movies out there.

reply

So you are saying movie writers *SHOULDN'T* do their best when writing a movie?

I'd say good sir that you are defending everything that is wrong with the movies nowadays! I'm not saying that every movie is Oscar material! But I'm saying that every writer should shoot for the stars! I'm not buying/renting/watching movies to support garbage. When I rent/buy movies I expect them all to at least TRY to be good.

I'm not going to complain about the acting... Some of these actors still need to see movies like die hard and see how an action movie SHOULD be played. But I am going to say that they still have a lot to learn, which is a positive thing.

reply

you can have mindless fun with movies.

but you still need it to make sense and be coherent.

reply

Since you replied to my comment, no shyoru I didn't say that at all.

I'm actually agreeing with you in that the Producers should feel obligated to pump out intriguing and thought-provoking stories to balance out the garbage thats being peddled out there now; or create decent entertainment films for the sole purpose of whatever genre they choose. Prime example is "The Asylum" Film Studio which crap out garbage and worse-than-campy movies, and the people out there eating it up like its Christmas. I don't appreciate that at all, and I'm actually glad I was never duped into renting their garbage movies.

And the acting in Abduction was adequate and satisfactory enough for me not to debate about whether how decent or aweful it might seem to you. Probably your problem with it was because the actors in the movie were playing characters from the douchey, young-metrosexual hip CALI scenes; which seems to me why you would compare it to another movie like Die Hard.

Don't worry I get you point! LOL

reply

C'mon, let's be honest...if every writer/director/producer made it their mission in life to produce high quality films we probably would be bored to tears...

This film was watchable; and yes I am one of those who didn't want to watch it simply because of Twilight, but it passed a couple of hours and kept me interested
regardless...folks may call me a simpleton buy I just want to be entertained, not educated or learn a lesson...I've seen way better and way worse. It's ok and there's nothing wrong with just being ok...

reply

I don't think that movie goers are looking for Oscar nuggets. They are looking for a movie that at least don't insult their intelligence. This movie had HUGE plot holes and was very unrealistic. To many for this movie not to be considered a fantasy film or a dream sequence.

reply

I wasn't expecting Oscar material, I was going into this for the exact reason you describe; I just wanted a action thriller that entertained. This did not. The pacing was bad, the acting was bad, the writing was bad, the dialogue was bad. Admittedly there were one or two moments that showed a little hope, moments where I truly did think "Ok, up to this point it was really bad, but maybe now it will get good," and I really did hope for that. I wanted this to be good. I wanted it at any point to turn around and become something better, and if it did it at any point, if only 5 minutes before it ended something happened that completely switched the gears and made this a good movie, I would have easily excused the entire movie up to that point and walked away saying it was a good movie. Unfortunately, it never did.

I think this film is being too harshly rated. Taylor Launtner showed he is a good enough actor to change from a film like Twilight to a pure action movie.Just because he took his shirt off a lot in twilight, that doesn't mean all other films he does should be rated from this (and let's face it, it's a decent enough body under there, it's not like he's puney white and disgusting) The action and special effects were quite good and kept me interested throughout the movie. I would recommend this to a friend if you're looking for an action packed movie with a good storyline. Sure it's not perfect...but it's good enough. I would rate this film 8 out of 10. I would buy it on dvd because it was entertaining and if there was a sequel made, i would be interested to see how it was done.

reply

It may have entertained but the film has been done at least 100 times before so it's not exactly anything new.

reply

It was predictable but entertaining enough. Not a masterpiece but quite good for one watching. Amusing enough.

reply

I did not understand why this movie was rated so low. I hope Taylor reads this! I felt the movie was very good Taylor proved that he can carry his own as an action star! I hope he keeps this action thing going because he is good. As a matter of fact I am watching a Tom Cruise movie "Mission Impossible II right not and such some similarities of Tom Cruise acting in Taylor Lautner! You are young Taylor and I believe you will be one of the top actors in the future!

reply

I will bet money that Taylor will be forgotten in a few years.

If he keeps appearing in movies like 'Abduction', yeah.

Does he have more than one facial expression? He has this weird, furrowed brow, I'm thinking hard expression he wears in EVERY FRAKKIN' SCENE. Looks like some Russian gangster is threatening to clip off the second joint of his left pinkie if he doesn't explain Planck's Constant in 60 seconds or less.

Gave this movie 1/5 at Netflix, probably would give it a 1/10 here. This was painful.

Just have to say, that was one of the funniest things I've read on here in a long time :D And it describes Lautner's expression PERFECTLY, LOL :)

I would also put money on it. The Tom Cruise comparisons are SO wrong. Cruise appeared in films when he was not much older than Lautner that were not that great (Cocktail, Risky Business). But they became HUGE hits because of Cruise - he had charisma to burn, and he might not be the greatest actor, but he was damned interesting to watch. Taylor Lautner is a charisma vacuum, and his acting defines the word 'wooden.' I think his pecs were doing most of the acting in the Twilight franchise.
I simply am not there...

the action scenes were decent but i HATED this movie so much because the story and plot didnt really make any effing sense to me. sigh.

the boy does not get abducted, hes being chased by a man for something he has but he doesnt exactly know what it really is because they dont explain it, the real dad isnt any help on trying to help his son at all.

the only thing i liked about this movie is when it ended
