‘Hawaii Five-0’ to End After 10 Seasons

It's funny. I came across this news while mostly ignoring a brand new episode on the air this very minute actually, scrolling on my phone the whole time. This show definitely doesn't hold my attention the way it used to. It had a great run, but it's pretty played out. Shame that it's just gonna slink off the air in a few months. No big "final season" promotion and the like.

It's about time. Way too many characters, most of which seem to be the goofy sidekick type. The main two detectives don't have the same camaraderie they used to. At one point it was more of an action show that seems to have mostly died off now.

I'm fine with the decision. Hawaii Five-0 was becoming trite, corny, and repetitive over the seasons, more so than usual. Scott Caan seemed to show up whenever he wanted to. Now, with Alex O'Loughlin's injuries, the show probably wouldn't have been sustainable without him.

Ten years is a good run.

Was this planned? The article makes it seem like it was a recent decision.

Hawaii Five-0 boss Peter Lenkov thinks it was CBS' decision to ultimately pull the plug after 10 seasons

https://tvline.com/2020/03/31/why-hawaii-five-0-is-ending-season-10-series-finale-preview/

“I thought we had a chance of maybe going another season — every season, I thought for some reason the show would end — but I think the network just thought it was a good time” to wrap things up, Lenkov tells TVLine. “There are so many different things that factor into this — economics, everything — and I think they felt it was the right time.” Lenkov adds that he doesn't think that Alex O’Loughlin, who has often suggested that he might exit over the show's wear and tear, or that Scott Caan had anything to do with the cancelation. Lenkov adds that he always had a series finale in mind prepared for the day Hawaii Five-0 would finally say goodbye.

I think it was planned. I think the cast and crew knew this was the last season, at least. According to the description of tonight's final ep, they're finally gonna wrap up the mystery with Steve's dad, and there's supposed to be some villain callbacks. So this sounds like they knew they were wrapping the show up. I swear the last few weeks of promos were saying it was gonna be a two hour finale though. It's just the one ep.

The promos are still saying two hour Finale but my provider schedule has new episodes of MacGyver & Blue Bloods saddling it.

I went right to the CBS website and it confirms new eps of Mac and Blue. I'm guessing maybe they had a retrospective they canned or something.

It was originally supposed to be a 2 hour finale. But with the COVID crisis, they made a scheduling decision to split it up into two 1 hour episodes.

I really liked Season 10 - thought it was one of the best I've seen. I thought they were going to plan some sort of spin off, hence the new character introduction. Very good send off I thought.

I'll start my re-watch of it immediately!

New guy was strange to be sure. It looked like they brought in a guy specifically to take over the action stuff for Alex. Then did a last minute decision of handing the show off to him instead. Between him and bringing in Katrina Law, I'm not sure they were planning on ending the show this year. Prepared for it, but not planning for it.

They didn’t plan on this being the last season. THre was an article that said that they filmed the farewell scenes with all the folks except Scott Caan, two hours after they told them it would be the end of the series. IT was largely ad libbed.

The original '60-'70s one was a classic. I could never stand the new one.
