Rated so highly but cancelled?

Yes I know it was cancelled, but all this time later I am still peeved about it. I miss this show!
I loved this show and all this time later I am still pissed and wondering how on earth can a show that rates so highly and still gets talked about long after its gone... get cancelled?

Highly rated? It averaged ratings of 2 million.

I think the OP was referring to highly rated in terms of how well people enjoyed it. The show was by no means a stellar productio. It was more like a supernatural/action-based evening soap. But, in its defense, it never tried to be more than that and was happy to be what many would call a "guilty pleasure". The people that liked this show, REALLY liked this show and got into it. It had a strong fan following.

Its treatment reminds me of Firefly. But that was FOX, and an even bigger travesty.

I hadn't ever seen the show until a couple weeks or so ago because I seen it on Netflix. I watched it and the show was great, I can't believe they cancelled it. I swear tv channels now a days always cancel the most of the good shows, cause some of them have actually got renewed thank god, but then they keep the stupid reality shows and keep coming out with more. Idk what's wrong with people if that's what they wanna watch, cause most of them are stupid. Wish they'd bring The Gates back but it's been too long, they already would have it they were going to. It was a great show though and shouldn't have been cancelled, at least not so soon!!

The funny thing is if this show had gotten the same ratings on ANY cable network it would be considered a huge success and would still be on. Personally, I felt this show - while highly enjoyable - was trying to appeal to much to the Desperate Housewives demographic. Because despite the fact it was a primetime soap The Gates constantly hinted at darker things and Richard Hatem is behind The Mothman Prophecies and the 2003 ABC series Miracles, which was absolutely fantastic and I feel like the studio was restricting the creativity of this show....

However despite all that The Gates was still an awesome show. I miss it. The characters were interesting and even though I wanted it to be darker and weirder and more what I expected of a show like this, I highly enjoyed it all...
