Why all the negativity?

Most of the entires on this message board are extremely negative. However, if you read the User Reviews you get a completely differeent viewpoint.

I found the reviews had a lot of substantial things to say while this message board was a lot of shallow whining.

The positive reviews did not strike me as self interested posts. They are relevant observations and not shallow. They listed their points and back them up. I've seen the film and agree with the reviews.

The message board sounded like people out to destroy the film and could well be some of the type of trolls I've seen for other pictures. The message posters may also be people who cannot realize that their judgement will not be felt by everyone else (I meant cannot as in are unable to accept other judgements can exist). There are many movies I feel are poorly written, poorly acted, or poorly filmed. But I usually don't bother to vent my spleen against those movies as I have seen that others have a different opinion. I can often predict whether I will like a film reading the reviews, positive and negative and professional and amateur. I just don't see the need to dump a whole pile of manure on a film simply because it wasn't to my taste. My tastes are often radically different from the popular points of view and that doesn't bother me because they are my tastes and I don't need to dump them on others. My point in this post is not to insist on my review of a movie but to ask for more civility.

There is a very ancient saying that is usually rendered in English as there is no accounting for taste. What was intended by that statement is that one cannot argue logically on subject of taste such as which actors or actresses are good looking and to some extent even whether they act well or not. These are opinions not facts. Tastes are individual things. I "enforce" my tastes by whether I spend money to see a given artist or director or whatever another time.

This is no classic movie. It is also not for everyone. But it is rather well done and tells a story with some substance to it. It is strongly based on the book (which I just finished) and I was interested in the faithfulness it showed.

As I said the movie is very closely based on the book. The two end differently. The ending in the book is more realistic and the movie ending is more Hollywood feel good. The movie made me happy while the book made me sad. However, I realized that the book is likely to be more true to life. The book tells what probably would happen. The movie tells what we wish would happen or what we feel should happen.

I agree.
The movie is relatively popular and I enjoyed it. All the negativity on this message board seems suspect.
What I'd like to know more about is who all the characters are based on. It's a thinly veiled tell-all, right?
