why keep saying secret service?

I am watching this again because I saw TUPPENCE MIDDLETON in the SPOOKS film.

I am no more impressed by this film on the second viewing than on the first.

Why do people keep going on about the secret service.

In the USA the SECRET SERVICE is a government agency most famous for guarding the president.(they do other stuff as well see the film TO LIVE AND DIE IN LA,which is a great film unlike this one.

In Britain it is an out dated term for the intelligence services,pre 1940s?

I was annoyed watching the news on election night when a reporter said "there is the secret service waiting for Mr Cameron".
NO NO NO ,they would have been police officers.

MI6 Still uses SIS on their website https://www.sis.gov.uk

MI5 still calls itself The Security Service. Maybe that's what the filmmakers meant to say.
