do people even realize this is based on a book???

Usually I avoid media reviews like the plague, but I was curious about what people were saying about One for the Money because I'm really excited about it, but slightly apprehensive... (much less apprehensive since seeing the trailers, which I actually think look really good).

But it seems like all the reviews I can see are just going on and on about what a ridiculous plot it is.

Ummm... hello... Ridiculousness is like a key component to the entire Stephanie Plum series. Would a lingerie buyer become a bounty hunter? Probably not. Would someone's car blow up every few months? Probably not either. It's the whole point.

So my only conclusion - they must not know this is based on a CRAZY successful book series, or they wouldn't even be mentioning the plot as one of the film's weaknesses when it has clearly already proved successful.

So then I got on here, thinking, well at least these people will know it's a book, as I'm assuming most people that are here are here BECAUSE of the books. But then I see comments like "This is a rip off of The Bounty Hunter" and I just want to face palm over and over again.

So I'm sure most of you know (and are probably fans of) the book series. I just wanted a place to complain for a second.

Thanks for indulging me :)

I wonder that as well love. And I love, love, LOVE the plot!

I voted for Frenchie and Dia like a sex donkey on Xanax.

I know me too!! :) I think the whole premise is hilarious, and makes for a crazy funny series. I hope the movie is popular enough that they make more!

I think that's going to be a problem. The fact that a lot of people who loved the books HATED the movie is going to make it less likely that they'll make more. I love and have read ALL the books and at first I was a little upset with the movie, but I gave it a chance and I didn't HATE it. Yes, I didn't care for Heigl or Ranger or Grandma for many reasons, but I LOVED Morelli and her family and the story lines (which if the critics read the books, they'd understand)!

My wish was that they either make a series of T.V. movies or a T.V. show, an hour long so that they could make all the shows. I think it would work. Instead they blew millions to make a movie that got *beep* revies from critics and viewers alike. Due to that I doubt they will make any more. It makes me sad. : (

Just because it is based on a book does not mean it is good. I'm a fan of plenty of books that were made into movies that I did not care for. I've read reviews from fans of the book series and from people who haven't read the book, and I haven't seen many good reviews. It is very possible that it doesn't translate well to the big screen.

No most critics don't. I also realize most people to bash every movie that comes out to feel good about themselves. I saw this movie today. I enjoyed the film. My mom read the book and she said this followed the book and enjoy this as well.

Yeah I saw the movie a couple days ago and I've read all the books. I thought the movie was hilarious and I thought the plot translated just as well to the movie as it did in the books. I don't think theres any reason why the plot of a popular book like this wouldn't translate, if its done right. Yes, I tend to enjoy the books more than the movies, but I thought this one was great. It is what it is - its never going to be award winning, but I found it to be highly enjoyable and entertaining. Of course some people will disagree - no film is universally popular and everyone is entitled to their opinions. I just think critics should do a little research and realize that however asanine they find the plot to be, it had already proved popular with a wide range of fans and should focus their reviews on other aspects.... Or at least include that it is based on a book, thats all.

Really? I'm curious how you are aware of what "most crtics" do or don't know. Considering "based on the bestselling novel" is clearly written on the poster, I expect any who didn't know beforehand knew by the time they sat down to review it. In any case, what difference would it make? Do you imagine that if you phoned up a critic and told him, "Hey, this film is based on a book," he'd respond by suddenly loving the movie and writing a whole different review?

-There is no such word as "alot."

I saw the film last night and didn't realize it was based on a book. I could see why fans of the book would be disappointed. I didn't believe KH in the role and although I thought the movie was cute. I'm going to read the books now

I have a lot of family members who read the books and were excited for this until they found out Katherine Heigl was going to play the lead. Some actors are just bad enough to kill any film, no matter what the plot is.

I've read most of the books, and you're right: Basing a criticism of the movie on its plot is beside the point. But I saw the movie on Friday, and it's not very good. The reason it's not very good has nothing to do with the plot. It's a case of lousy direction, or a bad screenplay. Whereas the books are delightfully screwy, all of the fun is missing from this film. OK, maybe not ALL of the fun, but too much of it.
