A 22 year age gap between brother and sister?

I know it's possible but it is pretty out there. They really couldn't have made Zac Efron Sarah Jessica Parker's son?

reply

Actress Vera Farmiga has a little sister who is 21 years younger than she is( Tarissa, she's on American Horror Story).

Make IMDb a better place, ignore Miss_Misery1313.

reply

Good point but they have four siblings in between them and even then it's sufficently unusual that it's the first thing mentioned on Tarissa's bio.

It does seem an enormous age gap to go completely unexplained.

reply

**Spoiler alert** Yeah, the age gap between Efron and Parker was tough enough but to match her with Josh Duhamel? That may have been even more ridiculous.

reply

Yeah, I blinked when the "Uncle Paul" thing came up. Looks like just a lazy fix in the script, they needed someone the mom could call to find out where the daughter was, so....

If I had had any popcorn left, I would have thrown it at the screen when it turned out that S. J. Parker was the woman Josh's character had been sighing about for 12 months. Just not in his league. What's wrong with that guy?

reply

@Kennesi - exactly what I was thinking!!!

@dbwilyumz - if I understand you correctly, you mean SJP is too good for Josh??? The other way round, my friend, the other way round!!!;-)

Though they're probably both very nice people, the match was *ugh*!
Like this overstrung mother would ask him 'What about your heart?'...puh-leeze, gimme a break!

Apart from that, I did enjoy the film, much better than Valentine's Day imo.

reply

Agreed. He should have ended up with Halle Berry.

reply

Halle Berry is 1 year younger than Parker, just supremely hotter.

reply

So the 6 year age difference between Sarah Jessica Parker and Josh Duhamel is unthinkable, but yet it's okay that Jon Bon Jovi is SIXTEEN years older than Kathryn Heigl? Good to see the double standard is still alive and well.

reply

I don't think people think that Duhamel and SJP is unrealistic because of an age thing. But Duhamel is supposed to be some super successful and eligible batchelor, why would he care about old horseface SJP?

reply

I thought it was unrealistic - and it's not a double standard. Heigl and Bon Jovi were at least given a credible back story - SJP and Duhamel had very little and seemed forced. I could care less about the age.

reply

The age isn't a factor that people care about since I don't think people would've gotten that upset if Duhamel hooked up with Michelle Pfeiffer who's older then SJP. But the difference is Pfeiffer still is attractive.

reply

Ya I was underwhelmed by the reunion and disappointed it turned out to be SJP.

The brother-sister relationship didn't bother me as much because I have a friends who have massive age gaps with their siblings.

reply

SJP looked beautiful, especially in the end scene. She looked stunning.

Zac and SJP were completely compatible as brother and sister to me.

Her being Josh's mystery love was perfect. No, it was more than perfect. I'm glad it turned out that way.

reply

"It does seem an enormous age gap to go completely unexplained"

The explanation is simple: They wanted to create a link between the two storylines. Completely unnecessary and a dumb way to do it.

reply

Who is to say there aren't more siblings between Sarah Jessica Parker's character and Zac Efrons? She could be the oldest and he the youngest with a few in between.

reply

who is Miss_Misery1313????

reply

I have sisters who are more than 22 years older than me. The closet sister I have to my age is 11 years older.

reply

Which is what I pointed out earlier; usually if you see a huge age gap between siblings it's because it's a big family and there are other siblings inbetween - there would be a couple of brother or sisters in between SJP and Efron.

Okay I guess they might still exist but it is pretty weird casting to leave unexplained.

reply

yeah my dad was the youngest in his family his two sisters were a good 20 or more years older. After their parents died his sisters took care of him. He sometimes referred to his niece and nephew (my cousins) as brother and sister since they were closer to his age and he grew up with them. So i liked that they put it in, it was strange at first to see it in a movie, but it made it seem a little more real.

but this movie wasn't great and i hated that SJP was the mystery girl..even though i saw it coming.

I have one sibling, and shes 18 years older than me.....its not weird at all. Though it seems less likely when its a full sibling, still its not a big deal??

reply

Not necessarily, my eldest brother is 23, I'm 20, my younger brother is 19 and then my only other sibling is my baby brother who's 1 (yes he was a surprise)

reply

I have sisters who are more than 22 years older than me. The closet sister I have to my age is 11 years older.

I have a 1/2 sister that is 20 years older than me. Her son (my nephew) is 6 months older than me.

But yeah, I have 4 siblings between my oldest sis and me.

It's not out there at all - She would be 22 when he was born. That said - who cares, this movie was so horrible no little plot tweek could possibly fix it.

reply

i have a sister who is 24 years older than me...i don't find it that unusual

reply

My brother is 21 years older than me. It's not that big of a deal.

reply

When did they say the characters age difference was 22 years?

reply

Yeah, I did not hear that. I figured they were probably 15 years apart or something--which isn't unusual at all. My sisters are 15 and 13 years older than me. I thought Zac was 25 or so, and SJP was 40.

And I too was angry that SJP was Josh's mystery girl. That was bad.

reply

they could be half-siblings too

reply

In the movie SJP daughter was 15, if she had her when she was 20 that would only make her 35. Assuming Zac is 25, that would only be a 10 year difference. I guess I just don't get how that's such a stretch.

#1 - no way Sarah jessica parker is 35 in that movie. This was just more pandering to SJP - she gets the man though its insane to think this guy would A want to be with her (or any or the older women throwing themselves at him), she has multiple gratuitous "look at my gross feet" shots in this movie which I'm sure she demanded, and she does her shocked skeleton face schtick throughout as she looks for her daughter.

#2. Yes I have heard everyone give their "my dad was X years old when blah blah blah," but leaving out your particular circumstances, the average family does not have a 10-20 year gap between kids. The original poster was right - they should have made Zach her son or even nephew and made her a realistic 40-50 year old mom. The plot device to get SJP out of the house was fine, but she didnt need to find her daughter to have this chance encounter.

#3. She's kinda a jerk for telling this guy she'd meet him and then had no plans to do it until the last hour. Apparently shes much more interesting than the other women he meets, but nothing in the storyline suggests she's more than an overbearing mom who has a job in clothing design and participates in her daughters school. I struggle to think a chance encounter with an aging mom out too late with a with significant problems at home that need sorted out, a teenage daughter, and some cryptic ideal about holding onto love for a year without speaking is closer to an appealing person than to a crazy person.

#4. This awesome party...it looks like the lamest thing I've ever seen. Everyone is 20% older than Zach Effron if not more, and its just a classy party that seemingly has a few cougars at it. This movie had so many problems with it that I can understand each individual actor thinking it was good to be in this ensemble but every single relationship is so ridiculous that it really makes you mad that they did so poorly at the plot. The only people I completely understand are Halle Berry and Ashton Kutcher. Halle has no real reason to celebrate and dives into her work....Ashton has no real reason to celebrate but gets a few hours with a hot girl and gets her to like him (though his depression with new years is absurd - college breakup...come on.).

#1. So in other words you are biased and just don't like SJP. That's fine, but really has nothing to do with the story. You simply didn't like the casting. From what I can see, making claims about age is just assumptions and personal preference. You can't please everyone.

#2. It's obviously more common than you think. Apparently, you just didn't agree with the story line, which again is fine, you are entitled to your opinion. The issues you have just didn't bother me as they seemed to bother you. Characters in movies aren't usually based on what the "average" person is. The average person doesn't head up the NYE ball drop, the average person doesn't go around tearing down Christmas decorations like Scrooge, Etc. Characters in movies usually have unique characteristics.

#3. I got the impression that her plans changed through the course of the year, dealing with lifes struggles, Not that she had no intentions to do so when she made the plans.

#4. It's a shame that you didn't enjoy it more, not really your cup of tea I guess. I don't think it was a perfect movie, or that it didn't have it's problems. It was a couple hours of entertainment and distraction from the real word, which is all a movie is intended to be.

Kind of. But she did mention that she had been preparing for that moment for an entire year. And, she kept referring to her plans for the night. She reluctantly decided to skip her meeting when she won the right to have her daughter over New Year's.

> I struggle to think a chance encounter with an aging mom out too late with a with significant problems at home that need sorted out, a teenage daughter,

Remember that the daughter spent last year with her father. So, SJP had last year free and was probably out with friends and having a fun time. She may have seemed fun at the time.

But yeah, he will soon find out what a lame catch he's found.

> #4. This awesome party...it looks like the lamest thing I've ever seen.

I know. It's supposed to be a masked ball and the idea was that you just never knew what you'd be getting under the mask. But, only about 10% of the people even bothered to wear a mask. And Zac certainly wasn't dressed very elegantly. He was wearing his work clothes.

Geez, I have nothing against age differences, bro/sis or male/female whichever way round, but SJP sure looked a VERY old 35...lol She doesn't even look a very young 46...lol

I just don't like her as an actress, and her role here was awful to boot.

And when she phoned her 'brother', I was instantly reacting to it, like, what??!!

And Josh Duhamel is such a prize guy, few viewers wish her on him...haha
--- and he IS a young looking 39...:-))))

The scene he describes in the van just does not fit the SJP character AT ALL.
That's what's preposterous.

reply

When did they say the characters age difference was 22 years?

yeah I just assumed SJP was playing younger than she actually is.

reply

I thought it was weird too and my sister is 13 years older than me and my brother is 20 years older. So no you don't have to have a lot of siblings in between, just one accident at the end, ie. me = zac efron haha

but her being with josh duhmal (sp?) was preposterous
